Question about Audiovox D1708ES Car DVD Player

1 Answer

Skipping problem We actually have a model similar to this (PVS69701). It had started skipping when hitting a bump in the road, but now it even skips when we are parked. We have tried a DVD player cleaner and have tried numerous brand new DVD's in it, so we know it's not the DVD itself. Any ideas what we can try next?

Re: Skipping problem

The problem is likely due to the "door closed" switch not engaging properly. To get better engagement, superglue a tiny piece of a credit card to the tab located in the lower lh corner near the DVD when the player is open. This is opposite of a portrusion that presses the tab down whne the unit is closed. The unit is restarting because it thiks it is being opened due to the switch not sidengaging from time to time.

I have an XDVD271 and the picture flickering or skipping. The audio is fine. What is going on?

Try to check/toggle the int - ext A/V switch on the left hand side of the unit, that might solve it if it is only on one screen, if it is on both it is most likely the DVD player itself, try with a clean good DVD to check if it could be a dirty or scratched DVD.

sounds like a bad spot in your ribbon cable. it runs form the laser assembly to the circuit brd. you could have some dirt on the sled rails..either way the radio will have to be taken apart..if you can do this yourself the ribbon cable is not too expensive...labor is what gets you..

These aren't really made for offroad dvd watching. I dont think replaceing the lens would help at all. The dvd is very intence in data, theres alot of data there and skipping can happen easyly when bumps on road etc.

It would seem from your post/description that your car video player is suffering either from weak lens or partially stuck slider shafting.

Weak lens can either mean dust, grime or dirt partial obscuring the viewing eye of the reader laser, corrective procedure would involve cleaning, re-calibrating or in some case direct replacement. A workaround is to use CD cleaners that are available in most computer stores.

Stuck slider shafting is a 3mm metal rod about 5 cm long where the laser housing/carriage slides to and fro while reading the disc. It is possible that it is dirty, clogged with dust or the lubrication has gummed up. This component need not be replaced but would require cleaning and re-application of appropriate lubricant.

Except with the use of the CD cleaner, both repairs would require that the unit be removed from installation and opened up. Though this does not require that much familiarity with electronics and components, it does involve a bit of technical work. Should you not be comfortable going through this route, you may need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

HELP!!! My cd player just skips through all song never playing....

Sorry but this unit has a problem with the tracking servo. The problem could be an alighnment, or a bad componet such as the laser assembly, tracking motor or tracking driver IC, with all of these problems the unit will need to come out of the vehicle. Good Luck
