You can use an eighth-inch sub-mini stereo male plug to two RCA-type male plugs (one for left and one for right), plugged into the headphone jack. The adapter is readily available from Radio Shack or any electronics store. Just keep the volume level down on the laptop to keep from getting distortion or damaging the inputs on the stereo.

The two ports on the laptop are most likely a mic input and a headphone output.
Connect a cable (stereo) from the headphone output to the stereo input of your amp.

How to connect speakers to a Dell computer that has 7.1 intergated sound card....

How to connect speakers to a Dell computer that has 7.1 intergated sound card.

This applies to: Dell Inspiron 530 and 531

7410ac0.png

Note if you are just connecting standard stereo speakers (2.0 or 2.1) you will just connect them to the green port. In adddtion if the speakers are 4.0 or 4.1 you would connect the rear speakers into the black port.

In regards to 5.1 speakers you would hook up the above listed connections and then connect the center and sub speakers to the orange port. The picture below shows the ring assignments for the center and sub-woofer connection if you are not using computer speakers.

For the 7.1 configuration you would hook up the above listed connection and then you would connect your side speakers to the white port. Note the side speakers are left/right speakers so the ring assignment is a standard setup with tip being left and the second ring being right.

How can I hook up the 5650 system to my lap top?

The laptop has one RT/Left mini port on the side or up front. You may require and adapter to a larger stereo plug if the Mini Adapter is too small for the speaker line input. If you have Two wires to the speakers and no Mini-Plug, you need Converter from Mini Plug to Right and Left Ports. Best you take it with you to RadioShack and they will match up the adapter you need then and teher.

Just go a dell precision 380 hook up for the monitor has 3 prongs and the computer has 2 what do I need to hook it up.

On the left side are different views. I am looking at the REAR view

At the Bottom, of the Rear of the computer, are 6 expansion slot openings.
Two of the expansion slot openings have an adapter card in them.
The other 4 are covered with an expansion slot cover. (Metal)

One of the adapter cards is a Graphics Card.

Looking at the Back of the computer, and from Left to Right;
there is a;

1) S-Video port
Black in color, round in shape

2) DVI port
White in color, parallelogram in shape

3) VGA port
Blue in color, parallelogram in shape

This article shows a graphics card with the same setup,

S-Video,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Video-Connectors-Tutorial/157/4

You can use the S-Video port, or the VGA port, or the DVI port; to connect a monitor.
However out of all three, the DVI port is the best.

VGA is Analog.
Your computer puts out a digital signal. (Digital video signal)

DVI is Digital Visual Interface. In otherwords - Digital.
Therefore DVI is the best.

Armed with the above information, can you clarify more about your problem?

For example;

Monitor cable has three prongs........

Using the above information, can you tell me what monitor cable it is?

Computer has two...........

Can you tell me where on the computer, you are trying to plug the monitor into?

Please post back in a Comment.

Dell latitude d510 has no power

Please check out the following steps to confirm the real issue:
1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

I think the most likely cause is that your dell charger is broken, just try a new charger to test:

Latitude 510 battery light flashing amber and white

Hello, the problem you are having is caused by a loose connection on your motherboard between the charging port and the motherboard. You can either open your computer and try to solder it, or you will need to replace the motherboard.

Another possible cause is that your laptop charger is dead. If you can't confirm, just get a new ac adapter, it is much cheaper than replacing the motherboard:

I AM TRYING TO RECORD IN STEREO IN TO THE **** INPUT. IS THIS IN PUT A STEREO IN PUT?

The microphone input is a mono input.
To record in stero you need a USB stereo input adapter.

WILL ONLY POWER UP WITH THE BATTERY, NOT WITH THE AC POWER JACK

  1. If available, try an AC adapter from another D or E series Dell and see if the system powers on. If none is available, use a multimeter to see if the DC output of the adapter is around 19 volts.
  2. If the system doesn't power on with a different adapter or if the Voltage is good on the adapter, then the failure is most likely the motherboard.
