Classic sign of bad inverter. Since it is inside the LCD not something you can fix yourself unless you work with electronics. Needs to go to the repair shop.

Flickering screen and wont light up. I tried hooking it up to another computer changed power cords and cables to no avail.

You tested the screen on another computer and the fault is same on both computers. This means the Samsung LCD screen is faulty, this fault could be a faulty inverter board that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the CCFL lamp is faulty.
If you want to fix it yourself then parts maybe available from LCD Parts.

Monitor on/off button flickers

Hi!
The reason why the button of your monitor flickers is because the 12 volts output supply for your inverter board is not stable..
If you have the skills and the right tools for this, Here's what you need to do
1. If your monitor comes with a power supply adapter, open it..check and replace blown capacitor with same value..
2. If your monitor is using a cable power cord..open the back cover of your lcd..on the power supply section.. check and replace blown capacitor.
3. Check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections.
4. On the inverter board section...check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections, the high voltage inverter usually loose connections when overheat.
5. Other things to check if step 1 to 4 did not resolve your problem. Check and replace burnt high voltage transformer.. Check and replace busted backlight inverter..

Hope this fix your problems..

thanks.. much appreciated if you rate this help.

Why ismy screen is flickering?

You may have failing AC power supply adapter, backlight inverter board, backlight lamp assemblies (poor solder connection), bad soldering works, burnt parts. You will need to troublehsooting it to component level to repair it.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Samsung syncmaster 203b problem

Hello,

This is a typical symptom of a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. When the filter capacitors go bad the power supply can not start up correctly so you get flickering or even no display. You can repair this unit by replacing the bad capacitors and a fuse on the power supply. This is an easy repair, it just requires a little soldering. Here is a lin to additional information on which capacitors need to be replace and also here is a picture of the power supply board with the capacitors and fuse circled.

Screen is dim barely can see desktop in background

Usually this is a problem with the backlight, or inverter. Most of the time the inverter is the problem which is a pretty cheap fix. If its the backlight, then you will have to replace the lcd, which is much more expensive.

Normally this is caused by the power inverter for the lcd2.gif. It is a small circuit board right below the lcd, that powers the backlight. If you take off the front bezel of the laptop you should be able to see it, it will have a 2 wire power cord coming out the one end, and another plug in2.gif on the other end with several wires.

Check ebay for a replacment but make sure you get an identical model as the one you have, as they are very specific to each laptop. The inverter will have the part number written on it.

Monitor flickers or 1/3 turns black, have tried wiggling cable, and moving/tapping monitor, sometime it works great, other times i fight this every few min. Doesn't matter if i turn computer all the way...

You may have a faulty inverter or loose power inverter connection. OR
You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Flickering Monitor

Dear Thunderforce -

I've run across this issue quite a few times with LCDs, and generally there are two possible causes: Either the Power Supply is bad(best case), or the LCD's Inverter is bad(worst case). Most LCDs now use a standard computer/monitor power supply - usually a thick cable, with three prongs on the male end and three slots or holes on the female end, same as would be used to give power to the computer. If you have an extra cable, you should try testing it with the LCD. If the screen works, fantastic, chalk it up to a broken power supply.

Otherwise, you'ld have to open up the display to replace the Inverter board. The LCD will have three or more circuit boards in its casing; One that handles input, one that handles power, ocasionally a separate board for video logic, and a slim board that connects the other PCBs to the screen itself. This slim board is the Inverter, and will have to be replaced.

The issue at this point is cost of repair vs. cost of replacement. An LCD inverter can cost anywhere from 40-140 bucks(on average) even on Ebay. Most big-name computer stores offer a comparable LCD for around the same price after rebates, or on sale. Second hand, I've even seen a few 17" LCDs for as low as fifty bucks.

Hope this helps!

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
