My Tv is turning off by itself

I dont know whats wrong with my TV, its fairly new, I have had it less than a year. It just started turning off by itself today. Now it wont stay on for longer than a few seconds and it turns off, it seems like the VCR is trying to eject a tape maybe, but there isnt a tape in it, and we havent watched a VHS tape in a very long time, as we are rarely home. Please help, is there a way that I could possibly disable my VCR from the combo, so that I dont have to worry with it? tv cuts off when video is put into vcr

if all you want to do is disable the vcr portion turn the set on , install a blank vhs tape it has to be blank or the vcr will try to read it .and the tv and dvd should work fine. this is a timing problem in the vcr deck its not hard to fix but it is a pain.

SOURCE: What do I do when my Emerson TV keeps turning off by itself?

Thank you, solution #2 works! I was given an Emerson TV/DVD/VCR and it was turning itself off. I put a tape inside & now the power stays on! It won't work with the tape ejected, but works fine if a tape stays inside.

This is probably due to dry solders in the power supply area of the tv... next time when it powers off give it a whack on the side and see if will just light up for a moment.. If it doesn't just open the tv and check for dry solders, loose contacts and faulty capacitors.. PS:I would not task some one without experience in electronics to handle this one. This shouldn't cost you much even if you hire a tech anyway..

Magnavox TV/DVD/VCR combo keeps turning off

So after calling a tv repair guy and listening to him tell me about how it is probably something to do with the transistor and it will cost me about 150 dollars to fix ( which I could buy a new tv for that price since it is only a 19 inch) I decided to look online at this issue of turning off after 5-10 seconds. I read about it being an issue with the VCR sensor, so I don't know about it being some LED that you have to replace because I just messed around with a VHS and moving the little white bar thingy on the right just inside the door for the VHS around a bit, and Voila it started working right again. I think maybe my son tripped something by sticking things in there and whatever I touched fixed it. So my advice is to just stick a VHS in and take it back out a few times and play with a few things inside and to the right. It didn't take long for it to work for me.

High pitch buzzing and no picture

Your power supply, I mean the internal power suppy could be faulty, if you know how to deal with it, check it for abnormal oscillation, or get some help from someone who knows how to repair it.

I had the same problem with mine turning off after 3-5 seconds. After much research I found a suggestion that on some combo units the vcr part could have a power supply cutout if it is not working correctly. I tried to insert a tape and found that the tape mechanism would not accept a tape. I used a little bit of force and managed to insert a tape. I then played the tape forwards and backwards and the power stayed on! I ejected the tape and found the TV then worked just fine. The power has now been on for over one hour. I hope this give you another avenue to try and fix your problem.
