Hellow their you will need a new oven ignitor.it must pull enough amprage thru the oven safty valve to open.your tapping the valve is adding the warp pice in the valve so will open.you can google your model # and come up with some part suppliers.ive sold 100s of the ignitors for 45$

This is usually a bad igniter (glow bar) part # 74007498. The only way to test it is with an ammeter; it should draw a minimum of 3.3 amps. If it is good (10% chance), then the gas valve part # 74009891 is the problem. Hope this helps!

Hello,

The reason the igniter would come on yet not let the gas flow is because the IGNITER IS WEAK and not drawing the proper power to open the gas valve. Replace the igniter nad the oven will work without having to tap on the valve

Can this gas range be converted to lp gas maytag performa

moz-screenshot.pngmoz-screenshot-1.pngTurn off the gas supply.
Locate the gas valve regulator. Unscrew the top cap on the regulator, turn it over and re-install it.It should be marked NAT. LP.When correctly converted you will be able to read LP.
On the Performa all the conversion parts should just be adjustments. Remove the oven racks, remove the oven base pan, remove the oven flame spreader pan to access the safety valve. Take a 1/2 inch open end wrench and tighten the orifice on top of the gas safety valve. Tighten it until it is snug.Remove the top burners and raise the top to access the surface gas valves.Tighten the valve spuds until snug. Re-assemble all parts.Turn the gas back on and lite the burners. Turn them high and low to make sure they stay lit. If any burner is not right tighten or loosen the orifice spud for that burner only. All air shutter adjustments should be full open,

Belling G755 Cooker oven wont stay lit

I'll give this a go! With a cooker like this, you depress and then turn the control knob, press the ignition button and continue to depress the control knob for a few seconds. This is because a device called a thermocouple is heated by the flame and you have to continue to depress the control knob so that sufficient gas flows to heat up the thermocouple. If the thermocouple does not get hot or stay hot then the gas valve is automatically closed - stopping the gas. The thermocouple is a 'flame failure' safety device. If the gas gets cut off then the flame goes out and the thermocouple goes cold switching off the gas valve automatically. However, you are having to try and manually keep the gas going for a good five minutes. I would think that there is either a problem with the thermocouple or the gas control valve! Gas Oven does not work.

Here's the deal about those igniters. They get "weak". See? That safety valve is there to monitor how much current (amps) is flowing through the igniter. Once the correct amperage is satisfied, the safety valve "knows" that the igniter is hot enough to ignite gas so it opens up and allows gas to flow through the manifold.

The reason you can tap the valve to light the gas is that the valve is almost ready to open anyway. You just send it over the top by tapping it. So, the fix for this one is to replace the igniter. All your troubles will be gone then... well... not "all", but the oven will work! Here's the igniter or you can use this one...a universal igniter and cheaper, too!). Hopefully, you have an appliance parts place locally, if not you can get it online.

Hope this helped!

Maytag gas oven won't hold temperature after 30 minutes of use

The Oven safety valve. Look for it on the base plate below your ignitor. It is a the end of the burner manifold and has 2 wires to it Check it quickly by getting to the point where it acts up. But first, Connect a voltmeter to the 2 wires (if you can with them still connected to the safety valve. When it ignites the voltage will be present. Let it cycle off like you described. Now watch it as it tries to come back on. If you get a voltage reading now that indicates everything else is working and the valve is not opening like it should in other words with the voltage to the gas valve and the ignitor glowing you should have a flame. I assume the ignitor comes back on.

If this helped you please rate me as high as you can. If it did not please restate what problem your having and help me to understand it better. Thank you for using fixya and good luck.

Oven won't light

Tip - do not change the safety valve first even if the ignitor seem "ok" if you gently tap the safety valve and the flame comes on initially but fails to come on after awhile after each"tapping" - the ignitor is the most likely culprit
