The Older model Scanners can. The newer Models can only intercept Local traffic and not Private Police Bands.

I was given a uniden police scanner and I need to know the frequencies and how to get the static out. . Thank you . Rhonda Hansen

First thing to try is to change the "squelch" setting. If you squelch is set wrong, you will hear static all the time and the scanner may not scan. Turn the squelch until you no longer hear the static and the scanner scans.

Is there buttons i can press to reset my scanner

Even if your scanner can manage to receive the frequencies, you would not be able to hear what people are saying. only the first generations of cell phones were analog and you could hear on side of the connection. Today all pone communication is digital, encrypted and you only can receive a phone close enough to you, to hear just a rattling noise. Modern phones are working close to and above 2 Ghz. A frequency, most scanners can't receive.

My scanner (radioshack Pro 2018) doesn't receive signals from local poloce, ambulance and so on. What do I need to do?

First, try scanning the Weather band to see if you scanner is working properly. If you don't pick up anything, your scanner likely needs some professional help. If the Weather broadcasts come in, then you just don't have the correct frequencies programmed for your local services, and it's possible that your area is using a trunked system - which your scanner is not capable of receiving. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and systems in your area, Visit:

www.RadioReference.com

The site will tell you if trunking systems are in use, and it will also provide a wealth of other useful scanning info.

How to overcome encryption on police frequencies on my PRO 96 SCANNER. Stumped.

Law enforcement agencies employ a number of high-level encryption systems, including DES, to prevent eavesdropping on their radio communications. In addition, some EDACS trunking systems have a ProVoice option that encrypts communications to and from specific users. Sorry, but you will NOT "overcome" these encryption systems. Keys for the systems are updated regularly, so even if you "found" a radio from the system you would not be able to listen in for more than a day or so.

Can you make a Uniden Bearcat BC 147xlt recieve cell phones

in short the answer is no. The frequency range of the receiver is
BC147XLT 29-54 136-174 406-512 FM in MHZ
The mod you are talking about would require
wiring and interfacing new receiver circuitry
to place the unit in the 800-900 mhz range.
Most cell phones now are encrypted within a data
type stream so they cannot be heard. Also it is
not legal to monitor Cellular frequency's. I hope
that helps.

Change from analog to digital

There are digital scanners available, but their use may be limited, depending on what you want to listen to.

A lot of scanning enthusiasts have spent a lot of money, only to discover their new digital scanner is useless.

Many emergency services are on digital BUT, they are also encrypted, so even with a digital scanner, encrypted transmissions cannot be heard.

Before parting with your cash... do some research on what digital signals can be heard in your area, keeping in mind that although some digital services are currently transmitted 'in the clear' there may be plans to encrypt them later.

Hope this helps.
