Question about Minolta Maxxum 4 Date 35mm SLR Camera

Open Question

Maxxum 4 will load film- but does not register on camera window

I have been through countless rolls of film- and finally it has stopped registering the loaded film. I load a new roll in and the photo number flashes on zero, and does not allow me to take a picture.

clean the contact terminals inside the film compartment. Your camera has an abnormal autorewind switch detection.

SOURCE: Minolta Maxxum 400si is locked up

link to your manual, it tells us that we have a winding motor problem, I would do as you have done, so I would ensure that batterys are in great shape, the only other thing I could suggest is to try to turn the winding motor by hand in case it is just locked up. Failing that I presume the motor has died and needs replacement.

I had the same problem with a maxxum 7000. Traced it to a bit of corrosion in the battery pack. It let just enough power through to run the computer, but upon releasing the shutter, it shut off.

You might check that. corrosion can be cleaned with vinegar.

SOURCE: Film loading problem Minolta Maxxum 430SI RZ

not solution, but a suggestion, something to look for/try.
i think it is trying to tighten it and take up the slack in the spool. there might be little red dots or something like that on the inside when you open it up. you are supposed to have the film go to a certain spot before you close it. normally, the film is sticking out the right length, but you might have to pull it out extra first. you might also have to tuck the end of the film behind a roller or in front of a roller before you close it. look for really tiny diagrams inside the camera, or maybe just tiny arrows indicating which way the film is supposed to wind. good luck with your class!

I just put in a new roll of film and I took 3 pictures and then the screen at the top said "ERR" and the film retracted itself....what happened?!

Hi, On Minolta's ERR means that the film hasn't been loaded in the camera properly so you'll want to reload the film.

I just bought a Minolta maxxum QTsi from a lady and it had no manual with it, I can't figure out how to load the film. Can you take me step by step on how to load the film and how the camera works when...

Hi, I've found the instruction manual online for you, that way you have it for future reference. For loading film you open up the back of the camera and make sure that the end of the roll of film is aligned with a red mark and then you close the back. For taking pictures you press the shutter button half way in order for it to focus, when the image you want is framed you press the shutter button the entire way and it'll take the photo.

Minolta Maxxumm 4 - rewinding too soon

Hey Pix4me,
I would make sure that the manual rewind button on the back of the camera is not stuck in, or you're not accidentally hitting the manual rewind button. I hope this helps!

Film Advance

You rewound the roll to fix the camera and now you want to advance over the exposed film to get to the unexposed part? Not a problem, just put the camera to full manual and load up the film, now cover the lens with the lens cover and go into a dark closet and start shooting and advancing until you get to the unexposed portion of the film, there you go. You know you can get 24 exposures of 35mm film for 99 cents and the 99cent store?
