My daughter's toshiba L505 just suddenly turned off. She tried to turn it on but failed.

When you turn on your Toshiba laptop and nothing happens, you may feel a rising sense of panic. However, it is important to calmly troubleshoot the issue. Although it is possible that your laptop may need expensive repairs, it is also possible that the problem could have an easy fix. Use the following steps as a guide to troubleshoot your Toshiba laptop.

1.Make sure you have correctly attached the AC power adapter and cable. If your transformer has a light on it, check to see whether it is on.
2.Be certain that you are working off of a charged battery.
3.Press down the power button for 10 seconds or more. If the button glows, the computer is on. If not, try turning the computer off and then on again.
4.Plug in a lamp to make sure the electrical outlet to which your laptop is connected is live. Look at the power-indicator button at the front edge of your laptop to see whether it is lighted. If it is, the machine is receiving power.
5.Try moving the connector on the power cord where it enters the laptop. Many Toshiba models will not use power from the charger if there is no power flow being detected from the battery (in other words, if it is dead or missing). If by moving the connector around you can cause the computer to power on, the problem may be the connection between the battery and the motherboard.
6.Check for switch failure. This requires specialized equipment, but it could very well be the problem if the status lights on your laptop are lighted yet the computer itself is not powered on.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

How to turn on wireless switch on a Toshiba 5205-S505?

First - Determine if your Toshiba Satellite has built-in Wi-Fi. Open the Start menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Choose "Control Panel" and select "Performance and Maintenance." Click on the "System" icon and click on the "Hardware" tab in the System Properties window. Click on the "Device Manager" button. Click on the plus sign next to "Network adapters." Look for a device that has "Wireless" or "WLAN" in the name. If you see this device listed, then you have built-in wireless.

Next - Turn on the wireless by holding down the "Fn" key on the keyboard and then pressing "F8" at the top of the keyboard. Press this combination until the window indicates that Wi-Fi is on. Some Toshiba notebooks have a switch on the front left side of the laptop that will turn the Wi-Fi on. Many Toshiba Satellites have an LED indicator light on the right front edge of the notebook that will turn on when the Wi-Fi is on.

Finally - Click on the Start menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Select "My Network Places" and click on "View network connections" in the menu on the left side of the window. Double click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon. This will open a window that lists available wireless networks. Click on the name of the network you wish to connect to and click on the "Connect" button at the bottom. Type in the password if required and connect to to the network. Open a web browser to test the connection.

Blank screen, lights on front and no toshiba load screen.

You need to hold down the FN button and hit F8, let go, then leave it for a couple of seconds and keep trying till an image comes up. and if that doesn't work, give it a try with all of the F buttons. OR you just have a broken laptop

Toshiba Laptop Computer model m45-s265 no power

I would suggest draining the residule electricity from the system and then try switching it on again.  Follow these steps:
  1. Unplug from any power source.
  2. Remove the battery (you will have to flip the laptop upside down and find the lock button that holds the battery in before you can slide it out).
  3. With the battery removed and the power disconnected, tap the power button on the laptop.  Nothing will appear to happen, but in actual fact any residual electricity that has built up across the motherboard will drain.
  4. Plug back in and try switching on again.  If it works, plug the battery in and you're back in business.
If the system still does not work after this, take it in to a repair shop or call your laptop's support service to get more advice, as it could be the motherboard.
