If the drivers are available for your printer and you have a generic OS driver installed, uninstall it then disconnect the data cable. The generic driver will install with Windows "plug and play".
Navigate to http://www.epson.co.uk/Home-and-Home-Office/Printers-All-in-Ones/Home-printing/Epson-Stylus-SX105/Drivers-Support;jsessionid=EDF17857D68DB083F3B38755B90282DC.acc5-new
to download the drivers for supported OS versions. This download will not include any third-party software that is on the CD included with the printer. Install as Administrator for Vista and Win7 - make sure to use the correct version (64-bit if that is your OS). If your OS is compatible with the software on disc, external optical disc drives (DVD writers) can be obtained for $50 or less.
Make sure that the USB cable is fully connected when the software prompts you to connect it. Make sure the paper is in the tray and can be picked up by rollers. Insert all of the ink cartridges properly and make sure that the alignment process has finished. Are any error messages showing on the printer?
With USB printers, try a new cable and a different port. Try a direct connection if you have a print server or USB hub connected. For Windows, check the USB drivers and make sure the ports are not disabled for security or power savings. (The first is in the Device Manager; the second is part of the advanced settings from the Screen Saver.)
I hope this helps.
