Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

Compaq Presario V2000 won't turn on

Is there anyway to access the hard drive on these laptops. Someone brought it to me with what I think is a bad motherboard. The fan does not turn but the power light stays on. The dvd drive will not eject but I've checked and there is not a disc in it. I have cables to hook up to IDE and SATA drives but this type drops into its slot and I can't hook up to it. The only copy of this persons wedding pics are on it or I wouldn't even mess with it.

If I had an another laptop that I could harvest the socket that the hard drive drops into I could probably rig one up also. I'm afraid I've lost some of my steadiness in my hands too. Thanks for the reply.

Ah yes, another illustration of the value of backing up often.
You didn't mention the name of the drive maker but you might get some response to an email asking if they make an adaptor that would allow you to access it via a cable if installed in another system.
I have made dozens of adaptors to resolve this knid of bottleneck. Uuuh, that wasn't an offer to make one, I'm retired and age has stolen too much of my steadiness for soldering and eyesight to see what I am doing.

Pcg 7147 p vaio can't see anything on the screen

Hopefully it did not overheat if it is the fan take a pen or needle that fits in the fan blades restart it and if it spins it is not the fan. But this does not mean the fan is not good either. Place it close to the ear and listen for the noise grinding from there. It may be the hard drive spinning as well place ear to both places and see where the noise is coming from. Lets hope it is not the fan because if it is you may have burnt the motherboard from overheating my suggestion is take this in to someone who knows about laptops and allow them to access the situation that is what I would do if I did not know how to solve those issues myself.
Otherwise you could do further damage to your laptop if you continue to use it. New noises are often an indication of a faulty device usually a HD or fan or DVD or CD Rom has failed or is failing it is a warning of something about to happen or has happened already. ............lets hope not ...........John

I turn on my Laptop and the fan will spin and the Hard disk light will turn on as well as the power light (obviously) But the Hard drive doesnt spin up and the screen stays blank no lights no nothing i...

Remove all of the ram, turn the laptop on if it does not beep you have a bad motherboard. If it beeps replace the memory and remove the hard drive turn on the laptop and see if it posts. If it posts without the hard drive then the hard drive is bad. Otherwise it is probably still a bad motherboard.

I did not mistreat my computer in anyway. If the computer does not start up even with the battery charger in and everything, what does that mean is broken? The harddrive or the motherboard?

If when you press the power button NOTHING at all happens then the motherboard is bad.

If you turn on the computer and the lights all turn on but nothing else happens then the hard drive is bad.

If when you turn on the computer and you hear the hard drive start, the fan running and everything else seems to be working then your video card is bad.

Does my notebook need a new heatsink/fan?

If your fan spins at all it is not a problem with the fan. It might be a heat sensor on your motherboard that was not reading correctly.

Now your fan will only run when it needs to so the best thing to do is replace your hard drive and go from there. You can get a hard drive from Best Buy and if that doesn't fix it then your can just return it and buy a new laptop. Or if you want to keep the hard drive just buy a USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive for your pictures, music, etc. Don't go buying a fan if the fan still spins. But a part that can be easily returned first.

How do I remove my hard drive from my zd8000.

Turn the laptop over on its back and look for the "L" shaped access cover by the fan grill. Remove the access cover screws and pry the cover off. Grip the mylar tab on the hard drive and move it away from the connector that attaches the hard drive to the motherboard.

Acer Aspire 5520 does not start up, power light blinking green

I think it might be the motherboard, if its not regulating the voltage properly then to much will go thru the motherboard and the fan won't be able to cool things down properly. Eventually then the motherboard will fail and then no video like your having now.

Try these steps anyway just to be sure:

only hook up the AC Adapter keep the battery disconnected. See if it turns on, if you still get a blinking green light then go ahead and turn the laptop off.

At this point, unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Try turning on the laptop after each stick reinsertion.

If that doesn't do it then disconnect the hard drive and the dvd drive from the laptop.

Then try turning on the laptop, if you still can't get video then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

At this point at least you would know for sure.

When turn on the monitor not show

When you turn it on, do you hear any activity? Motors start working, fan spinning, etc…? Try to connect an external monitor and start the laptop. Check if you can get any video on the external monitor. If the external monitor is dead too, try to remove the battery and start the laptop from the AC adapter. It also might be a bad memory module or a bad connection between the memory and the motherboard. Try to reseat the memory module, move it to the second slot. If you have two memory modules, try to remove them one by one and turn on the laptop. Also, try to remove the hard drive and see if you can boot it to Toshiba screen without the hard drive installed.
There is no special button to reseat the BIOS settings. To do it, you’ll have to access the BIOS using F2 button on the laptop start up, but as you have no video, you cannot access the BIOS and set it to defaults.
I think this laptop is still under Toshiba warranty, so if you cannot figure out what’s wrong, call them and let them fix it.

Toshibas are dieing on me.

How about if you boot with just the battery in? Does the battery charge? Possible solution include: remove and replace memory chips to make sure they are seated correctly. Check with a known good power supply. Almost sounds like a motherboard issue to me. Plenty of laptop problems are related to bad solder joints on the motherboard, unless you or someone you know can open it up and find a bad joint the only solution is mother board replacement. Try reseating the memory first.
