Hi- I have a SONY KDP 65XBR2 TV - a wonderful unit that I have had for about 4 years. About 6 months ago, it started to display curved diagonal lines - very visible in dark scenes, not at all in bright ones. The it started to radomly flash bright grren - sometimes this was followed by the TV shutting down - we would either have to turn it back on or, more and more often - unplug it and plug it in again. Although this has not happened for a few days, thelines are still there. Someone told me that the green gun is probably going. The problem is, I live in NYC - no one will servive it here - the want totake it to the shop - which costs $175 just to come and get it. We were given ablu ray player for Xmas - the SOny of course has no HDMI input. We have limited $$ to spend, and, as we see it, have three options. 1. Get it fixed 2. Try to sell it and buy a new TV with HDMI inputs 3. Donate it to a charity and take a tax write-off of $2000 or so. The new HD TV we were thinking of was the Toshiba 65HM167 65" DLP Projection TV - not as good as the Sony we know - but we aren't as solvent as we were in 2002. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! Carl (cs35@aol.com)
-   We had the curved lines on the black screen...always. About 6 months ago we would turn the TV on and it would flash a few times go blue and shut down. We would have to unplug it to get it to come back on. It repeated this about 3 times before it would stay on. The last time it went off it would not come on again even when I unplugged it. Now we are without a TV. This TV was purchased at Circuit City and you can't get anything out of them now. I called Best Buy and they could not find the model number but said they would come service it to see if they could fix it. If I could find out the part number they would order it. Please offere me some hope. Thank you. Bonnie Tittle-   bonniet

-   i have the 65 inch sony grand wega i think? the picture comes on then about twenty seconds into it it starts flashing red on the screen and then the picture turns off .please help me i know nothing and could use a hand all i have done is remove the rear cover and look blindley into the guts of it-   skattydykis
I would guess your problem is more likely the green drive bd (the circuit bd mounted to the neck of the green tube) it might be the tube but it doesn't have to be and I have seen many drive problems on sonys. I think the usually call it the CG board if you want to locate it and put it on it probably is relatively inexpensive. By the way my opinion for what it is worth the Toshiba is much better than the Sony.

I have a Sony KDP-65XBR2. It powers up fine, then shuts off after 5 steady red blinks on the standby light. It has good sound in the speakers, and the picture displays fine, old bulbs will probably need to be replaced. The unit will stayed powered up for about 5 seconds until it shuts off. While the unit is powered off (with the power button pushed to the ON position) the TV will then give 6 very fast blinks. I noticed that when I first plugged the TV in powered it up, I got 11 red blinks from the standby light. Any suggestions???
