If windows explorer is failing, I would backup all my files, get a reboot disk if possible or purchase a operating disk cd.

Windows security alert keeps popping up. antivirus software alert keeps popping up. have mcafee antivirus but it says application cannot be executed. file is infected.

Hi,
Sounds like you have a XP virus. Turn your computer on and go into "safe mode with networking". once connected to the internet go to cnet.com. Go to the download tab for windows. Then download and install "malwarebytes".
Install the program and run it, this should take out the malware. If succesful, go to your computer icon, right click and then select properties. Turn of system restore and restart your computer. This will remove all the nasties. Remember to turn on system restore after this is completed.

Error 1920 installing Mcafee 8.5

Good morning! If you receive a "1920" error regarding failure to start a McAfee Service when trying to update or install Mcafee VirusScan, follow the instructions below.
WARNING: This procedure involves editing the Windows Registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Use this tool at your own risk.

Solution
  1. Uninstall McAfee VirusScan Enterprise using the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control Panel.
  2. If present, delete c:\Program Files\Network Associates and c:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates
  3. Go to the Start menu, select Run, and type regedit .
  4. Find and delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise and update the software.
Best regards

Pc hangs during shut down

Hi,
As far as Free Antivirus is concerned, you can download Avira from http://www.free-av.com/ It has the highest detection rates & also extremely light on the system.

The problem has been a series of smaller problems which progressively resulted in a lock or freeze. The few times it does not freeze, a screen flashes on selling a Spyware protection. I think my husband...

Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.
  1. Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
  2. Click the "safe mode with networking" option
  3. Update your antivirus
  4. Do a full system scan
  5. Restart your computer and hope for the best.
If that doesn't work, than reinstall windows.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
Avast is the best free antivirus there is. google it, install it, and enjoy your computer again.Another option is to reinstall windows. If you have the cd that came with the computer than put it in the cd rom and restart your computer and follow onscreen instructions.

Downloaded Mcafee internet security 1 year subscription and nothing has appeared on my computor

you better be getting that for free.. other wise you may be wasting your money.. mcafee is not one the best antivirus known out there.

keep in mind that downloading the antivirus is not the same as installing the antivirus and getting it to run.. so look for the installation package you download and look for a file that's called setup.exe and run it to actually install the antivirus. once install, configure automatic updates for your antivirus and you should see the macfee icon on the system tray (bottom rigth area where the clock is).

When surfing, this ANtivirus 2009 alert came on and can't get rid of it. I've also gotten a green screen pop up informing me I have a SPYWARE.MONTER. What can I do? ...

Hey tjchan92,

Unless you personally installed the "AntiVirus2009" program or this other application, what you may be encountering are either misleading plug-in applications or your computer may currently have spyware installed. Generally, one of the best ways to determine what these programs are is to run a system scan using the full version of an anti-virus/spyware program such as Norton AntiVirus or McAfee VirusScan. Should you choose to do so, you’ll want to make sure you’re using the latest virus and spyware definitions available since new threats surface all the time.

Please keep in mind that I only mention Norton & McAfee as examples. These are by no means the only anti-virus/spyware programs available, and are simply among the most easily-recognizable brands available through many major retailers.

Alternatively, you may be able to minimize how often these windows appear by adjusting your internet settings. Doing so will typically block pop-up windows and banner ads from websites you visit, and can often be done by changing your Internet Explorer privacy setting to "Medium-High" or "High” through the “Tools” menu.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
