Unknown water leak from the ice maker, thus freeze build up

We discovered afer a couple of days our refrigerator was not cooling beverages at the top and on the freezer side we had a build up of frost on the back wall of the freezer. After completely cleaning out the freezer side while the refrigerator was still plugged in we noticed leak coming from the lce maker. We don't know if the leak was just from condensation or is someting wrong with the icemaker. We have completely taken out the refrigerator from the house and checked the motor and it is working. please advise because water is still coming from the freezer side of the refrig.

The icemaker is dependent on the temperature of the freezer for its operation. If the freezer temperature is not about +5 to +10 degrees F, the icemaker will not function properly. If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer, you have a 'defrost' problem, which will cause the freezer to run too warm, and probably either the defrost heater(s) or the safety thermostat are no good. Fix the defrost problem and the icemaker will then operate normally. I am a service tech with 39 yrs. exp. Good luck!

Unit turns on and starts to cool. Then runs for about 5 minutes and turns off. Unplug unit and plug back in and it repeats the problem. Will stay running.

It can be issue with temp sensor getting overheated or compressor getting overheated or issue with compressor relay or capacitor.

Kenmore Model 78862891 freezer defrost drain keeps freezing up every month.

It can be issue with water valve its clogged and not letting the water to stop running and that is causing the overflow of water and that is getting freezed and then clogged.

Water dispenser does not shut off

That is most likely a dual water control valve stuck open on back of refrigerator near floor. One side feeds ice maker and other side feeds the water dispenser. If the ice maker side began to leak slowly it would create quite a mess of ice flowing over ice maker and freeze every place it could inside the freezer. The freezer isn't making alot of ice. Can the hose behind the ice maker freeze?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

When a refrigerator slows down ice production it is usually the result of poor air-flow through the evaporator coils. The poor air-flow is due to ice build up on the evaporator coils. The ice build up happens because the unit is not defrosting properly or the evaporator fan is not running at full speed.

To answer your question "Can an Ice-maker tube freeze?" Yes, they can and do freeze but when they do freeze that is caused by a defective inlet water valve that is leaking water by when it is supposed to be shut off. It can freeze if some one set the temp control to MAX cold. Additionally when they do freeze and the Ice-maker cycles the plastic hose on the back of the unit pops out of the ice maker tube and each cycle starts porting ice maker fill water on the floor.

This may sound odd.. but. Perform a manual defrost by removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so do not leave it unattended) The return the unit to normal service and after 8 hours start watching the amount of ice produced. (Should be normal for 2 days!) If after 2 days the ice production slows again you have an automatic defrosting problem that is causing the ice build up on the evaporator coils.

If you need any more assistance please include your complete model number in any future responses.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Water is leaking out of ice maker and freezing up where cubes are

Sounds like water valve is not closing all the way after the icemaker calls for water. This is because sediment in water builds up on valve seat therefore letting water pass through. Suggest replacing fill valve. Crescent shaped ice....ice maker on needs 4 ounces to fill icemaker, so any more than that will spill out.

Water Freeze to Ice maker

Usually when this occurs it is due to a leaking inlet valve. Replace that and you'll be in good shape.

Ice maker tube freezing up

  • change the water valve on the back of the machine.
  •  the water valve is slowly leaking water up to the icemaker where it freezes and builds up ice, blocking the water flow.

SAMSUNG RS253BAWW NOT WORKING

the ice maker wont cycle untill the temp of the ice is around 10 degrees so if the freezer is at 15 or 20 due to some other malfunction then you will see the maker full of ice but it wont harvest and make another batch. so you could have a sensor bad, control malfunction, refrigeration issue, compressor, defrost system malfunction(you mentioned ice build up)
