You could buy a new battery or just keep the laptop plugged into the wall. I hope the dog is okay!

I need to replace the battery in my gateway 285e laptop, but do not know how to remove the battery

I am assuming you mean the CMOS battery. The operation is simply. On the bottom of the laptop are two removable panels. Remove the smaller of the two. Under the panel you may find a wireless communication card. If so remove the card using the catches on the sides of the card. You will need to remove the wires clipped to the card - be sure to note which color is attached to which terminal. Beneath the wireless card you will se the CMOS battery. Release the clip holding it in and replace with the same type of battery. Reconnect the wireless card, attach it wiring (the antenna) and put the cover back on the laptop. You're done.

If it is the primary power battery simply slide the catch on the bottom of the case (just below the battery) to the side and pull the battery out. The catch resets itself when you put the battey back in.

Laptop keyboard does not work after dog laid on computer

Tell dog to grab it's allowance, and buy you a new laptop

Then protest around the dog daily until it does

(No, you have to feed it)

[Hold the dog's chew toy for ransom. Chew on it a little bit so dog will get the message.
"Hey! Ain't kidding around here! Laptop or I keep this!" ]

Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Press the Power On button, and hold it in for a count of 10 seconds.
(And I mean 10. Count; 1001,..1002,..1003,...etc)

Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure two more times.
Reinstall Battery, THEN reattach AC adapter to laptop, and THEN plug AC adapter into power.

WAIT 1 minute,....turn the laptop on.

Post back in a Comment.

[Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating it! ]

Asus laptop not turning on

If your laptop wont switch on from the battery you need to replace it and if the power cord is not providing power to the laptop you have to try another power cord just to eliminate that cord.

If it still dosnt work n you change the power cord, then its the power adapter on your mother board and it will need to be changed.

The problem is finding parts for your laptop depending on how old it is and how much it will cost to repair it.

Get a quote and consider if its more cost effective to replace the laptop then repair it.

Acer Aspire 3000 notebook: 1) monitor displays horizontal random lines. This can be fixed by clamping the bezel to the lid, at the position of the lid release catch, using a bull-dog (spring) clip. It...

Monitor: if the inverters were blown, you would be unable to use clamps as a workaround. I suspect a lose or broken contact to the display wafer caused by rough handling of the laptop. This is delicate stuff, you cannot repair without specialized tools and usually its simpler and cheaper to swap the panel for a new one.

Charger: try to remove the battery and connect the charger. Check if the laptop starts now. If yes, the battery probably reached its end of life and drains so much power during inefficient charge that the power supply has not enough extra strength to run the laptop on top. Only one hour of run time hints to a degraded battery, too.
Replace the battery with a new one and check if the problem persists.

If the laptop does not run with charger and without battery, the power regulation in the laptop is fried.

Since there is more than one defect already (replacement batteries are not cheap, too), you should consider to contact Acer repair services. In my experience they provide reasonable priced repairs; they give you a quotation for a small fee before they actually repair the thing, so you can decide how to proceed.

Check if they have a repair site in your vicinity. I went to Acer Hong Kong in 2005 with similar problems and a few days later picked up my machine, repaired to my satisfaction and with a full report what was wrong.

My dog chewed my power cord. Dh "spliced" and taped for now. The laptop will work with power cord, but battery will not hold ANY sort of charge. Is the problem my cord or the battery now?

ask the dog.....!!!
ok sorry jokes apart...

was the battery working before ur dog helped u out...
remove the power cord and check how long ur battery can hold on till it dies down...when ur notbook is ON

if it holds for more than 10 mins then the battery will charge if the power cord gives it enough power to charge, else u may have a power adaptor that gives enough for notebook to work but not enough for the battery to charge at the same time....
u may have to change both the adaptor and battery....or else change the dog...ha ha ha...
u r the best judge....ask the dog to do some work on it may be......
just kidding....

My computer wont turn on? i have the charger pluggged into it but it wtill wont turn on.

Unplug your power adapter, and takeout the battery. then old the power on button down fo 10 seconds to release any power in the system. then plug in the AC power/Charger ONLY and power on the system. if that dosnt work, repeat and only ut in the battery and power on .
This is assuming your power/charger is working( usualy has a green light glowing the main box) and that you have juice in your battery
You also may have damaged the power jack: I repair them for 119.99
