Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

Both Drivers for CD Roms wont work for Dell Dem 2400

Using Windows XP SP2 and IE 6
I have uninstalled them and reinstalled them but they still show a ! beside each. I uninstalled WIN XPSP3 thinking that might fix the problem.

1. HL-DT-ST CD ROM GCR8481B

2. Samsung CD R/RW SW-248F

Is there a free download website that I can go to reinstall these drivers? When I google I see others have the same problem.

This final solution worked without a hitch! Now I will test it out by reinstalling a cleaning program I have since it wants to act out...LOL to be sure the drives are working!

The two devices are both hooked to your secondary IDE channel. It could be that the IDE controller driver is corrupt or missing. Go to the Dell website, download and reinstall the CHIPSET driver, which includes the IDE channels. Then reboot. The driver page is here:)

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Failing that, verify that the drives are visible in the BIOS setup. When you restart and see the Dell splash screen, press F2 to go into the BIOS setup, come down to Drive Info and see if the model is reported for the two opticals. Perhaps it got disabled there, but not likely unless you were changing settings.

Another possibility is whether you removed and CD/DVD recording software recently (Sonic, Roxio, Nero) as these may have changed the registry entries related to your CD/DVD drives.

If nothing works, please post the specific error code reported by the Device Manager. Right click on each drive in the Device Manager and it should be listed in the device status box.

Deleting old SP1 partition on dell 2400

Sound like you have two versions of the operating system out there. Not sure what your question is. If you want to remove the old version you should have done that while you were doing the installation. That would have been easy by just telling the system to do it for you.

Now you will probably need some type of partitioning software and i'm not sure if you just delete it if it will cause problems when you try to boot because windows knows it's out there.

If I were you, I would just reinstall windows and clean the disk of everything. It shows you what it finds out there as far as operating systems, so just delete them both, then do a quick NTFS format of the drive and reinstall windows.

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

My Dell Dimension 2400 has stopped working - how do i restore the factory settings ?

Hello,

It appears your model Dell 2400 should have been supplied with the CD's for reinstalling Windows XP, CD will be green or blue in color and the drivers and applications that came with the computer.

If so, back up your files first to an external drive and then put the CD in the CD drive and reboot the computer. It should come up to reinstall XP.

If good to go, you will be prompted to install the second Cd as well as online XP updates.
Software that was installed after you bought the computer also wouyld have to be reinstall as well as restoring your backed up file.

Rememberm all data is lost when you reinstall your operating system, unless these is a choice on install that may ask for destructive, or non-destrutive (keeps files).

I am attaching a link to Dell for your to copy and paste into your web browser for the support page for drivers and user guide in the event you need to reveiw the process.

STOP:c00002la {fatal system error}

try this, turn off the computer completely. as soon as you turn on again the computer you will be able to see a screen that shows you the DELL logo, at that screen immediately tap the " F8 " key continuously. if that is successful you should be in the windows advance menu option. use the arrow keys in your keyboard to choose the option of " last know good configuration " and hit enter.

if this doesnt work, try to reinstall the whole operating system including all the drivers. you need to have the operating system cd and the drivers and utilities cd that came with the computer.

but if you are using windows xp then just try this one.
- turn off the computer and let it rest for 10 - 20 secs
- turn on the computer and as soon as you see the dell screen that will flash in your monitor immediately press and hold the " CTRL " key in your keyboard and tap the " F11 " key continuously, if that is successful you will see the dell image factory restore by symantec, choose restore. after that just follow the directions.

(note: if you have files or datas that are important to you then all those files will be lost.)

i hope this helps.

Back to manufacturing settings as if brand new

When you purchased the DELL, you should have received a set of "System Restore" CD-ROMs. If so, insert the first disk, and restart your computer, telling it to boot from the CD-ROM, rather than booting from your disk-drive, and choose to reinstall Windows, with the additional Dell add-on software.

If you don't have those CDs, find the unique Dell ID (usually a white sticker on the back of the desktop, or the bottom of a laptop), and telephone Dell, and order a replacement set of those CDs, and then reinstall, as above.

Sir,
the code you see with ? explains that your drivers are not verfied by the windwos system32 compatiblity it usually get this way because of windows updated. You are suggested to rather download new windows to you system.

Try a Repair Install with your WinXP Bootable CD. If Repair option fails you will have to do a Clean Reinstall of WinXP as a last resort.
Some details:
1. Boot with your WinXP CD
2.At the "Welcome To Setup" screen, Choose the option:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. DO NOT choose !!!! To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. IGNORE
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3
3. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, under the Circumstances you are in the next option will be Clean install
5. I this does not work it might be your memory --download and burn to cd memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) and test your memory for errors.
