Hi. Red Ring of death is a sign of hardware failure. It occurs, when GPU (graphics processing unit) becomes loose. GPU is fitted on motherboard, when ever mother board heats up GPU become loose and green light turn into 3 flashing red light. The vibration of system usually loose the soldering of the GPU this will freeze up your xbox 360. Here's a link on how to fix this issue. Please click here.
First is the G.P.U. and or the C.P.U. has pulled /shifted away from their heat sinks resulting in a hi fan speed in 1min or less and 2 reds.
The solution is to remove the heat sinks and clean off the old thermal past and reapply new and put the x clamps back on.
second is the temp feed line/connection on the G.P.U has become intermittent and will need to be reconnected.
The solution ideally would be to have the G.P.U. re-flowed but since you have no money like most of us ,you will need to get creative. First try the replacing heatsink compound with articsilver5 and if that does not fix it I'll advice you accordingly on things to try before you use it for target practice.
3 red lights on the Xbox 360 is the most common error and it means "General Hardware failure. To fix this you need to stop the amount of heat that the GPU and the CPU is taking.
To do this you can use the recommended guide that has been on the market for 3 years or you can send it in.
This can be caused by dust buildup in the unit, causing the unit to overheat. Once the unit overheats it causes solder on the board to bridge (connect). Check with microsoft to see if this unit is still under warranty with this site: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/LiveIDSignIn.aspx?redirectUrl=http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair
If the unit is not under warranty go to: www.wiredextreme.com. We are a console repair company based out of Dallas, Tx. We can get your console up and running. All of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty for the whole console, not just what we repair. We also offer extended warranties for up to 4 years at an additional cost.
3 red lights happens because the GPU and the CPU overheat and shut down to prevent damage, you will need to send it in to get it fixed, or you can fix it yourself using a good video guide
you probably did something to where you messed up your xbox motherboard, making it (after less then a minute of power) get short circuited and power fails. i would recommend getting it repaired by microsoft if you have a warranty.
you have the red rings of death which means that your xbox 360 is over heating or needs the rrod repair there are parts you can buy on ebay and guides to fix this problem if your confident enough to void warrenty cause you have to take the xbox apart and remove and replace the x-clamps that are on the bottom of the motherboard and it is a pain cause i ve done that repair on mine or you can find a repairer in your area to repair it for you
This is known as the Red rings of death. It is caused by hardware overheating. The only way to fix this without voiding your warranty is to contact Microsoft Support and arrange a return to them for repair. You'll be without your XBox for awhile but they will fix it free of charge. Hope this helps.
Well it can that the GPU is overheating, that happens very often and I will tell why. Microsoft is so cheap that sometimes they forget to put the thermal compound on the heatsink that covers the GPU, so the poor GPU is force to the max and overheats easily after long periods of gaming. Thats why it freezes on the middle of the game. That was very common on xbox machines made before the launch of HALO 3, the new models do come with the compound but just a little bit of it, what a I do is that a use thermal compound like artic or other brand a put a even amount on the heatsink so it covers the entire GPU, then overheatings problems disappears. Hope it helps
