This happens a lot. My drive does this from time to time. It's the motor sticking and not allowing the disk to spin up.
I fixed this by taking the drive apart and spinning the table that the disk sits on to "un-stick" it. Works every time. Eventually it will break down for good, but this is an easy fix without dealing with the sorry customer service.
