Most new refrigerators have a defrost cycle where there is actually a heater in the freezer and it turns on occasionally and melts the accumulated frost and it should drain into pan of some sort below the refrigerator.

To isolate the problem, turn off your water supply to the refrigerator and give it a day or so and see if the water stops. If it does, you most likely have a water leak problem, if it doesn't you most likely have a drain problem with your defrost cycle.

Well theres a couple of things it will do at that frequency.defrost cycles and may be making ice.defrost water goes down a drain.ice maker fills thru tubes.also the defrost drain could be blocked you would see ice on frezeer floor.you have to us your fingers and trace out those places to find leak

I have water collecting on the bottome of my side by side refrigerator on the frigerator sided un the crisper.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Actually the leaking water is from the evaporator coil unit....(it is located at the back wall or underneath the freezer compartment). Under normal conditions,Self-defrost refrigerators usually dispose the water generated during the defrost cycle through a tube or channel that directs the water a pan (Known as Drip pan), commonly below the refrigerator unit....
The channel or tube is clogged and the water is leaking to the refrigerator/freezer unit, so you need to clear that blockage/contamination....Once the blockage is removed, the generated water will move through that channel/tube directly to the drip pan and there will no water on the floor in the refrigerator/freezer compartment. This is all you need to do....

MY REFRI LEAKING ALOT WATER ON THE FLOOR

Another cause may be the refrigerator may have doorframe heaters to evaporate any condensation on the cabinet frame. If your refrigerator is equipped with a switch inside that says “energy saver” or something like that, while running in that mode the door heaters are disabled. Turn the switch to the opposite setting and wait 24 hours. If the water disappears the problem is solved.

The Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator, model ED2KVEXVQ01 occassionally leaks water onto the floor. There could be a cup or more of water, but the problem has occurred a few times, but may go weeks or...

sometimes we overload our refrigerators and the doors will not close properly, next time you notice the water see if your doors are closed tightly and the seals engaged tightly. My wife has this habit of not checking after she has put away the remains of a big dinner or BBQ and I find drips of condensate water all over the floor as a result. The defrost collection pan overfills and the excess water goes on the floor. once the doors are closed properly the problem goes away.

This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

I have an amana 18 top freezer that is about 15 years old. I am getting water on the floor of the refrigator, i have unplugged it for 24 hours, and it still does it. No water is in the pan. What do i do as...

No water in the drip pan, water in the refrigerator - this is a classic case of defrost drain issues. If your unit has a little drip cup at the back of the refrigerator (inside) you will notice a hole above it, this is the drain coming from the freezer - When defrost cycle kicks in the heating element melts the frost on the evap coils above it and water drips through the hole and inside your cup in your refrigerator - then it should drain through a tube that extends to the back of your refrgierator through a hole, from there water drips down the drain tube down the pan at the bottom above the compressor so it can later be evaporated with the heat.

What you have is a plugged drain tube - water drips in your cup and overflows down the back of your refrigerator - if you are able to remove this cup and tube, pass a long wire down the drain line to dislodge any debris or whatever is blocking the line - clean your cup and also check for any debris. Also at the back of your freezer panel look for any debris or obstruction to the drain, causing water to back up and leak elsewhere. Once all this is checked, and you put back the cup, water should flow normally and drain fast enough through the drain tube.

good luck

Drip pan needs emptying; had repairman out for other issues, now fridge keeps overflowing

The accumulated ice you saw is of course the source of the water. The refrigerator will eventually rid itself of the excess ice and the problem will therefore disappear on it's own after a while. The drip pan is normally filled with only a small amount of water, and that is dried up by the condenser cooling fan under the fridge. The pan is removable from most units, but not without making a mess. I suppose you can make and clean up the mess one time and be done with it.

It leaks water onto the floor.

Where is the water coming from? unless you have a leaking ice maker fitting on the back or somewhere else, the most likely cause would be a stopped up defrost drain. check inside the freezer on the back wall and floor. if you see ice you will need to unstop the drain. (most newer models don't have a removable drain pan)
