Question about CD Drives
I've been having problems with my HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B.
First thing is first, here are some details.
I have a Dell Dimension XPS 400 with ALL latest updates from dell.
I have the latest driver for this device.
I have all the latest BIOS and Firmwire and EVERYTHING.
I'm Running XP Media Centre Edition 2004 SP3 32-Bit [United States]
There are no possible updates for me to install for it, unless i missed something.
What the actual problem is, is that My drive can READ dvd's and cd's perfectly.
the problem is i cant WRITE DVD's or CD's
When i instert a blank cd or dvd nothing happens is just says please insert a disk.
And yes i have tried over 20+ different disks of different makes, none work and all same error.
Ok, you need to go to device manager and uninstall the dvd and all drivers.reboot...xp will tell you it found new hardware...allow it to auto update...it will reinstall the drivers. If this does not work.uninstall drivers for dvd reboot go to dvd manufctor web site and download new ones .Confused or need more help just get back to me.HAPPY NEW YEAR AND THANKS FOR USING FixYa.RICHARDM69

open explorer and go to 'My Computer'
right click the DVD/CD-ROM Drive
click on the tab labeled 'Recording' (usually on the far right)
click the option that is labeled 'Enable CD recodring on this drive'
...and POOF, magic happens...
