My at&t remote will not change the channels when the room gets dark

The symptoms your TV is experiencing is due to a power supply that is not longer providing the 5 volts properly to the circuitry.
It seems to be a common failure on these TV sets.

It's unlikely that a setting you changed in the user menu would have locked out both the remote and the panel.

It sounds to me like the micro has gone bad. One other option, is a stuck or damaged button assembly. Corrosion on the button board can lock the micro.

Try to set the remote control; with an other code said for your device. Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. Harmony remotes use IR commands, so you will always have to have line of sight for it to work.

However, if you are using the RF extender, ensure that the device you are using to change channels is assigned to the extender, and that the extender is properly paired.

You DirecTV device may have been reset ack to RF. You'll have to make sure the device is set to accept IR commands in order for the Harmony remote to work on it.

I have had the same problem I have two bell receivers one in the bedroom and one in the living room, in low light the remote in the living room would work much like yours, but if I took the same remote into the bedroom it worked fine in low light, the second remote responded exactly the same, the problem in my situation was the TV had a light sensor that adjusts the picture depending on the light in the room, with this option turned off. The remote works just fine in low light situation.

This particular model of tv has a problem with the control board. This is a common problem with this unit. You can find control boards on EBay, or through a local technician. Please refer to our online technician list for a professional near you.
