I can help you on this , Your washer thinks it is full of water if its agitating , to fix this you will need to locate the pressure switch it is in the top with the other controls , you should be able to get into it from the back. remove the top panel it is the load size switch and has a small rubber tube going into it.
once you find it its time to un-jam it , you will need a hose about the same size as the one on it to blow in and out of the switch until you hear it click both ways , it is stuck out if this is the actual problem so you will have to vacuum air out with your mouth until it clicks to re-set the switch then when it does fill with water again the pressure will set the switch automatically. This is the only part that tells the machine it can agitate and is very common. Let me know if you have anymore questions and how it turns out. Phil

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Main Control Board

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

My Maytag Neptune will not go into the spin cycle, instead the letters "nf " come on the display. What can I do to prevent this and to have the cycle completed?

Bonnie,

NF = No Fill the control board receives signaling for the washer during the water fill cycle. With most cycles the depth of water is around 3.5 inches in the wash basket. I know a Bulky Wash cycle selection will fill the wash tub to a high fill which is about 7.5 inches of water in the wash basket.

Is the washer filling the machine with any water? Do you hear water entering the machine? If you are doing a cold water fill and there is no or very little water in the wash basket with the NF error code. Try a Warm or Hot fill and see if the machine will fill and start the wash cycle.

Assuming you are doing cold water wash loads. You could have a water line block at the inlet screen or a failed cold water inlet valve which will not open. Try the above and let me know the results..........Rich

Washing machine displays an LF error code. Started last week during whitest whites cycle in rinse. I cancelled and just did rinse to finish my load. All other cycles worked and yesterday all started...

LF = Long Fill

LF flashes when the water level does not change for a period of time after the valves are turned on OR water has disengaged the basket but control does not detect a water level change.
Is water supply connected and turned on?
Are hose screens plugged?
Is water entering the tub? If so check pressure hose connection to machine/motor control.

Hey, my f&p smart drive 9 excellence washing machine does not start wash cycle after entering water level etc.... upon pressing the start button nothing is happening any thoughts?

Is the bowl turning slowly when you press start.if it does then you may have a faulty inlet valve, make sure taps are turned on.try advancing the machine to spin cycle, see if it will do any other things such as spin & drain.if it does then probably just not letting in water & inlet valve needs replacing..try filling machine by hand & see if it washes.

Rinse cycle is not starting after wash cycle. I have to manually turn the knob and it won't start until just before the spin cycle.

inlet valves working correctly are you getting hot and cold water entering the tub ?start the machine and switch from hot to cold and make suire there is both temps available there is a thermister on some washers that read the temp of water cold is required for most machines to rinse ..the therms are mostly located on the inlet water valve inside the machine.

GE washing machine does not run, gives humming noise

A washing machine is a simple product.

When trouble shooting anything you have to know what is supposed to do and what is it not doing.

At the begining of a washing machine cycle the machine fills with water until a switch is made telling the machine it is full and ready to agitate. Since it never fills it will stick in that part of the cycle.

When you start a cycle and no water enters the drum you have one of three problems:

1. The water supply is shut off.
2. The solenoid valve that supplies the water is not opening.
3. No power to the washing machine.

Since you are hearing a hum, the machine seems to be trying to activate that valve,
The humming noise comes from the electromagnetic field that activates the valve,
