Question about HP PL4260N 42 in. Plasma HDTV

3 Answers

No picture but have sound

This is an PL4260N-HP Plasma TV and apperently the customer is irate. I need an idea to pin point the problem area and reduce costs.

Also I suppose this is a common problem with this set and from what I've read and what the customer is saying that he/she heard a pop or bang and the picture went out.
Warrenty will not cover this set.

Any help would be appreciated

You can first have a simple diagnose
1. video circuits faulty. Possibly the picture tube might have gone bad or lost filiament voltage.
Simply method to check you have enough high voltage is holding your bare arm close to the screen and your hairs will stand up.
2. As there was pop or bang sound check the cap or capacitor that look abnormal/swollen

If you are uncertain about the Board /circuit better you call an expert since there is Hazard Voltage
Good Luck!

The power supply is the weak link in these sets. Check all the output voltages. Most times they are clearly indicated on the PC board. On inspection carefully, I mean carefully, look at those rectangular capacitors in the power supply. With luck you'll find one bulging or with a hole burn't in. That's what made the pop. Finding a replacement is difficult unless you stock dead plasma sets to rob from. If all else fails, turn off the room lights ( do this at night if you have any windows ) let your eyes get accustomed to the dark. Then CAREFULLY turn on the set and observe carefully the power supply area. You will be able to notice any arcing now.

Sounds a Lot like this TV has Problems all around! The ONLY Real thing to do is Send it back to the Manufacturer or get a Local Service Center to Check it out. Either way There is not a Lot that U can do about this after she Pops she's Done.

You do not need a "picture tube" whatever you may mean by this.
