Is it frost or ice.if frost you will need an ohm meter to check continouty on the heaters and term thermostat.term thermo must be cold to check.if ther ok check voltage to the heater system from the defrost timer.if no voltage replace timer.if its ice it could be a blocked defrost drain.unblock clean out

well one thing you can do is take a weed eater string ,tie a nott in one end .push the other end threw the drain hole and pull thru the back area where the defrost drain pan is and flush with water.if their was any blockage this would clean it out.other possiabilties are that your defrost heater warps up away from your defrost drain then not heating it sufisintly causing it to freze up.if so you could replace heater.another thing you could to is make an heat probe.i use about 1/8 '' aluminum rod.hang on evaportor near heater then let it run into defrot drain hole ,being carful not to touch drain for it could melt somthing other than ice.thanks for using fixya,God bless your house, tom

Why does The freezer side stays cold but the refrigerator side gets warm

Your problem is more than likely a defrost issue. There is ice building up in the freezer coils and when it gets blocked with ice the cold air cant blow into the fresh food section. When you shut it off the ice melts and it gets cold again for a few days. remove the freezer back panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. if they check OK then check the defrost timer. It is best to replace all three components at the same time. This way you will be starting out with new components rather than one failing then the other.

Whirlpool refrigerator #ER2CHMXPL02 I think I have two separate problems. 1st one is a water leak that fills the bottom bins daily! The freezer does not seem to be defrosting, everything in there looks...

Could be that the freezer is too full with foodstuff and there is no air circulation, therefor, some places in the freezer build ice. The defroster is working and melting the ice that drips to the bottom bins.
I suggest you remove everything from the freezer. unplug the frigde. Let all ice build ups melt. Remove ice from the foodstuff and put back in. Make sure that vents in the freezer and fridge are not blocked.

My fridg and freezer is cold but not could enough the freezer wont keep food frozen. there is no ice build up, I replaced the defrost timer, and I cleaned the fan in the back what else could it be please...

Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

My meat is beginning to thaw in the freezer. this is the first time this has happened. any ideas? do i just need to defrost? the refrigerator is working fine, does this matter?

Usually when the ref is working fine the freezer isnt. You just dont know that yet. Check the back wall of the freezer and see if there is an ice build up. If so that means that theres a defrost problem so its either a bi-metal( terminator) heater, defrost timer or board.
Let me know if theres an ice buildup or not.

Warm fridge cold freezer

Hi,advance thermostat setting, to get colder , it's possible you got defrost problem, is there excessive ice building inside back of freezer? to determine if you have a defrost problem, unplug ref. for about an hour, let it defrost, let all ice melt away, it's better to remove your produce, keep doors open to speed up defrosting, after defrosting and cleaning plug back your ref, and let it work for another hour, and check result, if it's o/k, put back your produce, let me know, during hot summer months, regular use (opening) of ref, could cause excessive ice build-up evap. if after defrosting and cleaning ref. work good for 3 to 4 days, but start doing the same thing, let me know, it means you got a defrost problem. also check your thermostat, but first defrost and clean it, that could just be your problem. good luck.

Ice build up in freezer

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.
