Question about Car Audio & Video
I have a Soundstream Reference 300 2 channel amplifier i picked up from a friend. (for free). Now i hooked it up to see if it works b4 i did anything with it. now it has 3 lights on it 1 is a Fault light(yellow), high power light (red), and high current (green) now ive had this same model of amp bout 10 yrs ago and it was a monster for a ''rated 200 watts'' to the point i hooked it up put in both modes power and current and it doesnt put any sound out now the all the lights work as they should but the fault light doesnt come on though. can anyone tell me what the problem is and how i might be able find the problem and how to go about fixing it and any insights would greatly appreciated
It sounds like it's going into protect. To be sure it's not the wiring, disconnect all speaker wires from it. If the light still goes out, check the DC voltage on the B+ and remote terminals. Place the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amplifier. If the voltage remains above 11 volts as the amp tries to power up, the output transistors are almost certainly shorted causing the amp to go into protect.

If this is the CH150, it's not bridgeable. Try connecting it normally (one speaker per channel) to see if it will produce output.

What are you running in to your amp? If it's a CD player or radio, find the wires from them, disconnect them from the amp and connect them to the equalizer, then connect the equalizer to the amp.

The cause was most likely that it was overdriven causing this power stage melt down ,best advice is to bin it as it will cost more in time and labour to repair than its worth ,these sort of amps can be picked up from local electrical retailer from 100euros ,by the time you locate components and then solder them in is it worth it ,unless you enjoy doing it and have nothing else to do on a dark winters night then please do so .
