No sound on MOBO

I installed a new MCP6P-M2 Board. I cannot get sound. I was of the understanding that the sound was on board. Is this correct or do I have to install a sound card and if so can it be installed in the PCI Express slot as that's the only one left. I have my Netgear Card and a USB card in the other two PCI slots.

I downloaded the audio driver for that board and run the file, where it went I haven't the slightest idea but awhile later I noticed I had sound. I wish i knew where the driver was though. Anyhow, I'm smiling!........Bum

NO SOUND -a common problem with windows xp sp3 due to that microsoft removed support for high definition audio. You must download kb835221.exe to enable the hd audio support. Or you can remove and replace the windows xp sp3 with lower version sp2 or sp1.

You didnt say what operating system you are using. If you are using XP you may need to update xp then reinstall. DirectX 9 has to be installed before most of the newer sound drivers will even try to install. If your copy is XP or XP sp1 you probably just need to udate dx9

This board uses high definition audio amongst its special features.

After installing Windows you must run ALL of the driver install disk to activate the special features of the motherboard. The chipset driver should always be first as this allows other drivers access to all portions of the motherboard.

Check the Device Manager in the control panel to be sure you have no driver conflicts or issues.

If youi do not have the drivers disk, the best place to download replacements is the manufacturer's website. the drivers for this board are found here:)

If you downloaded but selected the Run option, the download would go into the temporary files while installing and then be deleted. You can keep a copy by downloading the file again but select the Save option. I like to keep all of the drivers for a system in a folder called c:\drivers just in case I have to reinstall the operating system later.

No beeps or Video means only one thing, the bios went on blank, engineers made a huge mistake and left the bios unprotected and all information is gone, the mother board is a failure. Store For Electronics People who have this kind of motherboards, must buy something different, and never that model again, as it can't be fixed ever.

Install it from the Device Manager, but before you do that, if possible extract the driver and save it in a specific folder so that it'll make you easily locate when you browse from the "Found New Hardware" Wizard. Good luck.

  1. Make sure the CD/DVD drive is connected and has power.
  2. You didn't say if the drive is IDE or SATA. If it is IDE, make sure the BIOS has IDE enabled.
  3. Check the 'boot order' in the BIOS and make sure the CD/DVD drive is first.

No onboard video with my new MCP6P M2+ mainboard

Try removing the bios battery for 30 seconds then boot the pc, this will clear the bios. Maybe the bios was misconfigured. Else you can jump the "clear cmos" pins on your motherboard, same affect as removing the battery. If that doesn't work try different ram, it's possible the ram is not compatible. Sounds plausible being that there were no post beeps. Good luck.

Black screen on boot on biostar mcp6p m2+

That board has a built in video card if I have the right info. If you are using an external video ie plug in card then you need to make sure the onboard video is disabled or that the plug in card is designated as the main video card. Not doing either of those will cause the black screen.

I think you installed windows xp sp3, try re installing with windows xp sp2 because microsoft removed support for high definition audio in sp3 version of xp, if you dont want to re-install or you want to use sp3, download the high definition audio update (kb835221.exe).
