Freezer just not getting cold enough. Freezer fan is running. Gasket, I thought was the original problem, has been re aligned. Light switch works and the light goes off when freezer is closed. Cold air is circulating, but it's just not cold enough. Fridge is 3 1/2 yrs old.

Alright, problem solved. Apparently an object came loose out of the freezer compartment and jammed the gasket out of shape. Over a few days the freezer has become totally frosted up. I'm currently defrosting it with a hair dryer and hope that this will solve the problem.

Here we go again. 3 weeks later and the freezer is starting to ice up again. There must be a problem with the defrost cycle. Any ideas?

The freezer is not enough cold, i check the defrost sensor, temperature sensor and its are ok, but the evaporator fan motor is not working... why? i check this fan too and is ok. Now what can i do??

It could be on automatic defrost mode, let it run for a while and see if it gets cold enough, also if you have the freezer to full and stuff near the cooling fan in the freezer, the freezer can not circulate to get cold.

Freezer not getting cold enough

Open the freezer door and push the light switch in, is the freezer fan running?

One possible problem is refrigerant leak. Pull the freezer back panel off and check evaporator coils for a partial frost pattern.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. DO NOT change the settings. You most likely have one of the following problems:
1. Automatic Defrost
2. Evaporator fan not running.

First check the door switch... make sure the light goes OFF and the fan goes ON when the plunger is depressed. If the light stays on with the plunger depressed the fan will not run.

Next check the condenser coils in the back of the unit inside the fiberboard access panel. Make sure the fan is running and that the coils are free of lint.

As for your unplug it thought.... this is actually what we recommend to do after the steps above.
However... there is a much quicker way than just unplugging it.

Do this to get rid of ALL the ice build up:
Unplug the unit and remove freezer contents
Direct a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours (yes water mess!)
After the 2 hours clean up the mess and return the unit to normal service.

AFTER 2 - 3 Days... Check again for signs of ice build up. If you notice ice build up starting again there is a problem with the automatic defrost circuit. Otherwise... no worries.

The symptom you have can also be caused by a door gasket problem if it is torn somewhere that is allowing air into the freezer when the door is closed. Just make sure the door gasket mates to chassis all the way around the door.

Any questions or comments just respond here and I will help you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

HI,my freezer runs fine, but I noticed where the motor side is,should there be a fan??,I feel no air moving.didn`t try to take off cover an look.an the freezer gets alot of ice at the top sides.thanks

Good day,
Unlike most refrigerators and upright freezers, they don't use a fan motor. The condenser coils are imbedded in the walls of the machine, and need no supplemental cooling.

As to the ice buildup, sounds as if the gasket isn't sealing well enough. You could try cleaning the gasket thoroughly, and check the alignment of the lid to the body.
Appliance parts houses carry a food compatible spray, which may help make the vinyl more pliable.
If that doesn't work well enough, then the only option is replacing the whole gasket.

With the model number, check with the supply house to see if the gasket is a replaceable style.

Is the refrigerator still working? Is there any cold air in the freezer? If your compressor stopped working it would cause the refrigerator to be warm also. I had a problem with my amana refrigerator where the freezer wasn't getting cold enough and it was due to a condenser fan running intermittently. i replaced the fan and was back in business. i would check to make sure both your fan and your compressor are operating...

Freezer fan not running

Often times the defrost termination switch (which opens when it gets warm enough) will hold the fan off until it closes again when the freezer runs. It is possible that the switch is not closing, but be sure the freezer is getting cold enough for it to close.

You know the freezer is likely cold enough when you see frost covering the entire evaporator coil after a few hours of operation. A partial frost pattern could indicate low refrigerant, or a restriction of refrigerant.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Fridge doesn't get cold enough

If the evaporator fan is not running. The fan itself could be faulty or the door operated light/fan switch could be faulty.

If the evaporator fan is running. The fridge is not defrosting and ice has built up on the evaporator and the air is not circulating properly into the fridge compartment. The fan circulates cold air into the fridge and back through the fridge control which is normally just an adjustable flap which allows more or less cold into the fridge depending on the setting. If the fridge is not defrosting, the defrost timer could be faulty or heater element could be blown.
