Question about Printers & Copiers

3 Answers

Hi - my kyocera FS-1020D laser printer won't print. The light says that i need new toner - but the cartridge is relatively new and when i shake it you can hear the toner. I've switched both computer and printer off and rebooted but no luck.

Hi - thanks for that. One more question. Is this an easy problem to solve - or is it likely to make more sense to purchase a new printer? The printer's 5 or 6 years old and out of warranty.

    THANKS for your help.

Sometimes there is a microswitch that does not sense the toner

If you can giggle the entire printer so the toner moves inside the printer
when you put the toner cartridge into the hopper it may build up so anthing to get the toner to cascade inside the machine will help

just lift one corner of the machine up about an inch or two and drop

Good luck

Hello wolly476

It may be the connections between the cartridge and the printer, see if they are clean. If not, then take a clean soft cloth and wipe them down. If that doesn't work, then do a full uninstall of the printer and unplug and then reinstall it and see if it resets itself. Let me know what the outcome is and if you have any more questions.

There are sensor arrangements inside the printer that detect (or should detect) whether the toner cartridge is empty.

I would say there's an internal fault with this sensor. Not something you can fix yourself I'm afraid. Printer needs a trip to a service centre :-(

Given the age of the printer I would look around in the January sales for a new one. Repair would probably not be cost effective.

By Kyocera Mita FS-1020D printer has had it cartridge changed and his just printing a grey smear on the paper and no readable information

is the cartridge a genuine Kyocera cartridge? I had similar problems on some models with the cheaper generic products. had to strip and clean the whole process unit to rectify the problem.

A black line is printing 6.5cm from the right side of the page

Clean the main charge, this is a step that is suppose to be done when replacing the toner but most people don't. The instructions to do this is in your users manual. If you dont have the manual go to www.gfbm.net to download one. Also make sure the cleaner is placed all the way back to the right when done or it will effect your prints.

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
