1.) Plug it into a computer.
2.) On the computer, go to Start, then Control Panel.
3.) When the Control Panel opens, go to Administrative Tools, then Computer Management.
4.) On the left-side panel of the new window, click on Disk Management. It will take a moment to load something in the middle panel.
5.) In the bottom portion of the middle panel, scroll down until you find the Defender. Right-click on it, then select "Format" from the list.
6.) A small window will appear. Where it says "Volume label," type in what you would like to name the device. For the file system, select "NTFS" from the pull-down menu. Leave the "Allocation unit size" as default. Then click the "OK" button.
7.) It will take a moment, but then it should be formatted for you.
