Question about EliteGroup ECS 945GCT-M/1333 Motherboard - v3.0, Intel 945GC, Socket 775, MicroATX, Audio, Video, PCI Express

1 Answer

I have a 945GCT-M/1333 motherboard but my processor is a Intel Pentium 4 - 2.66mhz and it seems to run for a little while and then shut down the entire system. I am running a Ram chip 1GB speed 533MHz PC4200. Why does it continues to shut down. I receive an error message on my start up telling me that the processor runs at 133mhz clock speed but the motherboard has adjusted the clock speed but still will run unstable. What can be done without buying anoher processor that they recommend is totally compatible. HELP

I always suspect overheating first in these cases. Are the fans, especially the fan on the cpu heatsink running?

You can check the system temperatures on most systems by booting the PC and entering the BIOS setup ....often by pressing the DEL, ESC or F2 key repeatedly as it starts up (the screen will tell you . which key to press to enter setup) . In the BIOS setup navigate to the "HArdware Monitor" or "PC Health" section. Watch the CPU temperature. On idle in the BIOS setup the temperature really shouldn;t go above 40C.

If it's a lot higher than this then the CPU heatsink fan needs attention.

Is there a updated video driver for a elite 945gct-m/1333?

Generally the latest drivers are available from the Intel Site.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm

that is a good place to go to, run the Applet and see if it finds updates. You have a 945G series Chipset which uses the Intel GMA 950 graphics chip.

Hope this helps!

P4-2.66Mhz processor run on a ECS motherboard 945GCT-m/1333

This may sound counterintuitive but its just a suggestion. I see by your prior post you are using a PC2-4200 1GB ram stick. Have you tried using faster ram? I suspect a FSB timing issue, even though by the numbers it should be running at 533MHz (which is 5x133).

This motherboard defaults to setting the clock speed by SPD (serial presence detect) but can be set manually in the BIOS. See if you can beg/borrow a PC2-5400 stick to see how it affects the timing and performance.
