My turntable seems to be working fine, but when I moved the arm today, the platter started to turn without the arm being above it. When I put the arm on the record, it stops turning. It's like the trigger to make it start spinning has been reversed. When the arm clicks (the trigger to start spinning, I guess), it should start spinning, but it does the exact opposite... I must have done something while moving the arm, but I really don't know what's the exact problem. I'd be very happy if someone could give me a solution! Thanks!

Looks like this is a belt drive model.

This site claims to provide installation instructions with belt purchase. Good Luck.

Your center pin is seized. You need to remove the three screws holding the center pin. Then remove the screw holding the shaft in place. Lubricate it with a light grease/oil and reassemble. I used spray lithium grease, but don't know if its correct.

I don't know the answer, but you have written one of the finest, most comprehensive problem descriptions I have come across. In mechanical scenarios, that is priceless. I'm sure a turntable guru will see it and go, "aw. I know what that is". Good Luck.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: it's an Akai AP-B1 model. And the problem might be the microswitch, can anyone confirm this and give a fix for it?
I understand you concern and thx. for model # and brand of your record palyer. Most of them work on the same principles - electric swithch with mechanical connections, gears, belts. So far ,it coul'dbe the only 2 solutions: drive belt must be as "8" or/end polarity of electric motor was changed. Check petiently.electric plugs inside, polarities of plugs and how the belt sits. Check switches under the turnplate or deeper inside. If it was working so far just fine, I guess some metal part is lose. Maybe some screw or nut. Yuo relize that you must inspect it yourself. There is no magic inside. Keep me posted.thou.
Isn't there any revers spin switch by- the -way ???
http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&s... - this one ? Check switch positioning near the main pin...and the rest you have undrneath of arm iside.
Yes, that's the one, and I fixed it today. One of the plastics inside (the one that pushes the trigger) was turned to the wrong direction, I just put it back, and it works again now. Thank you!
