Usually this means there is a problem with the memory card part in the camera that reads the card. When this happens it will usually say either memory card error or card locked, even when the card is fine. Try emailing this site for help with this: www.camerasandparts.com All they help with are the Canon Powershot cameras and they're excellent for help with these models. Good luck with it. They'd be the place that could help with this.

Be sure the cards were formatted in the G9/7, not by another device.

Does the camera format the card and register it's presents?

contaminated contacts are the other most likely cause. Insterting and removing a few times often corrects problem. If not, Avoiding static, clean the card with 90% isopropyl on a static-safe foam swab.

Why does my Canon G12 Communication has an error message when uploading to my mac

Probably your memory card is full, you should erase some pictures from the camera and it will work. It happened to my Canon G9 . I erased some old pictures from my memory card and the message Communication Error disappeared.

Screen is black but camera seems to work fine otherwise

For this problem, you can have it fixed at: www.camerasandparts.com They're wonderful for fixing Canons and they have your problem right on the site. Plus, since you have a G7, you benefit as they include the no power correction (common problem) to all G7 and G9 cameras they work on. It will cost you $89 for everything, service for the camera comes included with them too. Hope that helps to get you in the right direction with it, that's a great camera to not be able to have working.

I think that you can easily upgrade the firmware available from the Canon website.

Power failure

Yes it is common on the G9 and also the G7 models. It's from loose screws inside the camera. The best place I know of for this problem is camerasandparts.com They have a thing on their site for this problem where they service the camera, fix the problem and do the correction so it doesn't happen again in the camera. They're the best if you need help with a Powershot, that's all they deal with. They charge $89 for everything with the shipping back included. Hope that elps, that's the place if you need help with a Canon Powershot Camera.

No power?

You just need to have the camera serviced for this no power problem. This is common on the G9 but there's a correction that can be done so this problem never happens again. It has to do with two loose screws in the camera that can result in a short and no power on the G7 and the G9 cameras. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com they specialize in Service for the Canon Powershots and they are amazing if you need service for one of these. They actually have this exact fix available on their site for your model so you can get it taken care of for very little and have the camera serviced up completely at the same time. Try that site, that's where a lot of people go for help with the Powershots, good luck with it.

G7 and G9 have a common problem: loose screws short the circuit boards. So if it’s possible, return it. But if you really like to keep it, open the camera and make sure the screws are secured. See here for more details:

Canon Powershot G7 just wont turn on... for no reason I can tell.

Usually you can't hear the loose screws in these when they fall out and short out the camera, although many people will say you can. When you have no power on a G7 or a G9, it is most always that loose screw problem. The screws inside should be corrected at the time of the repair so the problem doesn't happen again later. The site that is great for help with the Canon Powershot Camera problems is: www.camerasandparts.com They are great with these and that is all they specialize in. I would see if they can help, they're amazing if you need a hand with the Powershots, plus they do that no power correction on all G7 and G9's they service which I like. Good luck with it

MY G9 IS NOT POWERING ON

It's a common problem with the loose screws on the G7 and the G9 cameras. The camera needs to be serviced since it likely blew a fuse when it shorted. The site that's really good for help with these is: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the powershots and they are less than most places charge. They do wonderful work but the best part is they do the correction for these problem on all G9's they work on so the problem doesn't keep happening. That's where a lot of people go for help with this problem. Good luck with yours.
