Question about Marantz CDR631 CD Recorder

Marantz CDR631 is dead

My Marantz CDR631 is dead.  When I press the power button nothing happens.  No lights and the tray will not open.  When the power button is in the On position I can hear a fairly steady soft clicking sound.  I can also see this signal on my console meters.  I tried a different power cable but there was no change.

That's good to know that you think  it's worth fixing.  It's been a great CD player with the ability to record which occasionally came in handy.  My  problem is finding someone in my area that could trouble shoot it and see if it is a problem with the power supply.  Thanks.

Open it up and take the mechanism out, then you should see a servo PCB screwed to the underside of the mechanism.
unscrew this and where the connecting wires plug in from the main PCB, you should see 2 or 3 fuses which look a bit like capacitors and should be red in colour marked MPXXX eg. MP100?
replace these if you can find spares, if not bridge them with a bit of thin wire soldered in place and then it should switch on once reassembled.
the clicking sound you mention will be the main power supply capacitors running and this is normal.

The Marantz is worth fixing.

Sounds like something in the power supply circuit. The clicking is probably a standby relay

Find a good stereo sales place near you and ask who can troubleshoot it for you.

You probably have a broken belt on the cd tray so it's neither open or closed, if the laser's ok thats why it wont play

Can you operate a marantz cd redorder without remote control?

Any CD recorder should be operational without a remote BUT there may be some menu items that might not be accessible. It strikes me as a poor design when you are required to use a remote to operate a device for basic functions.

Looong initializing phase followed by "disc error"

Hi...

How long have you had the CDR631?

I would suggest a good cleaning of the laser lens assembly. NOT
some cheapy cleaner disc either.

If youre not comfy with messing with small electronics let a tech do it.
Marantz is worth it.

hi...
Do you mean the Display?
If so ,it's a backlight issue. Some use little bulbs ( NAD and Yamaha)
Take it to a tech ( Ask your stereo store)
