Question about Microsoft ZUNE JS8BRPBDLUG MP3 Player

Frozen zune i turned on my zune and it loaded up but now its frozen. its just on the opening screen where it just shows the zune logo. its been like this for about 10 minutes and its not even turning off on its own. i tried pressing the back button and up button at the same time. i tried locking and unlocking it. i tried plugging it into my computer. nothings working though. i really don't want to have to get another zune. what should i do?

    My 2 Zune 30gig units are doing the same thing after the last firmware upgrade I think. Too much of a coincidence otherwise. Two identical Zunes, same problem. Stuck on the initial boot screen. Have to run down the battery to get it to turn off. None of the button combinations work, not the off, not the soft reset and not the hard reset. They appear to see no command.

    Dude I have the same exact problem! && mine wasn't even plugged into anything it just stopped on it's own! i'm mad I wanted to ring in the new year with 5 minutes to midnight by boys like girls! HELPPPP!

    my ZUNE is not working, it is also stuck on the logo screen. it also doesn't keep charge.

Just try letting it die completely and the try charging it up.

I wanted to start a sticky thread to give you a place to discuss the issue with the Zune 30's freezing. Rather than hijacking other threads or creating tons of repeat threads, please post here if you want to discuss.

I just got an update from the team that I want to share with you. Great news! It looks like this issue will resolve itself over the next 24 hours. Please read the response below. Thank you all for your extreme patience with this!

Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device.

Customers can continue to stay informed via the support page on zune.net (zune.net/support).

We know this has been a big inconvenience to our customers and we are sorry for that, and want to thank them for their patience.

Q: Why is this issue isolated to the Zune 30 device?
It is a bug in a driver for a part that is only used in the Zune 30 device.

The issue should resolve itself.

Q: Are you sure that this won’t happen to all 80, 120 or other flash devices?
This issue is related to a part that is only used in Zune 30 devices.

All 30GB devices are potentially affected.

My 30gb zune is frozen with the zune logo on the screen.


Hi as of last night every zune30gb in the world went frozen go to zune web page and go to support on the zune page and put in a repair request i also have a zune30gb so i hope they will be fixing the problem soon .

My Zune 30GB is frozen on the start up thing!


Disassemble and disconnect the battery for about 10 seconds. All Zune 30's apparently siezed this AM. MS is working on their solution, not sure when it will come out. The battery disconnect is at least a temp fix. Mine works fine after doing it.

Frozen screen


Got it working again. Disassemble and disconnect the batery for about 10 seconds. This worked to resent mine and it's working again. Not sure if it's permanent, but working for now.

Frozen zune


try reformatting it then reinstall the zune formware that might fix the issue.

Zune frozen with zune logo on screen


There is a problem with these known as the Zune 30's y2k9 bug. If you call they will fix the problem for you for free. Call 1-877-438-9863 for zune technical support.
