Question about Canon PowerShot A30 Digital Camera
I have a Canan powershot A30. Since I have changed to vista home basic I cannot detect the camera so cannot download photos. Can anyone help Pleeese!!!
You can get it working by setting to windows 98 compatibility mode (right click the install CD setup.exe..options, and click compatibilty tab). Some parts of software do not work, but you can run ZoomBrowser EX to download the photos. This only works on Vista 32 bit. The application (ZoomBrowser) must also be run in compatibility mode.

There are no drivers available to make the Canon PowerShot A30 work with Windows Vista. Your best bet is to get a CF card reader ($15 or less) with a USB connector and put your card from the camera into it. Windows Vista will recognize the card reader and the photos without any drivers.

SOURCE: camera won't work with vista
Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
