Seems like a manufacturing defect with the way C005 on the Mechanism Control Board was mounted. The positive lead hole on the circuit board for this electrolytic capacitor was drilled into a land that was too narrow for the lead size. The result is no +B to the motor control IC's(LB1641's) on this board. Jumper with a suitable wire from the positive lead on C005 to pin 7 or 8 of the LB1641. This fix obviously assume you know how to take the unit apart (really very simple really if you look at the unit carefully). The board is accessible underneath the entire mechanism.

I'am afraid you have done everything possible, the laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, not cost effective to repair cheaper to replace.

Onkyo DV-SP301 DVD player stuck in standy mode

Had an Onkyo DV-SP301 that would only intermittently come out of standby. Found faulty resistor R2 on the power supply board (board ORTP-865), it was nominally 5600 ohms, measured much higher. This after checking most p/s caps! R2 runs warm when unit is in standby, so you may want to replace with a higher power rated resistor. I used same rating but 10 k ohm instead, worked fine then.

Re: Onkyo DV-CP500 DVD player stuck in standby mode (by 7 users)

Hi Yes, sorry just saw this comment. Swap out C7, C17 and C18 in the power supply. Also I would check if you are getting 9Volts to the motor control IC's pin 7 coming off of C005 on the Mechanism Board which is under the unit. The hole for the C005 cap was drilled into a very narrow section of the circuit board and has marginal connection at best.. mine stopped working because of this 6 months after I fixed the power supply.

No power

Hi,

If there are no indicators that it is receiving power such as timer/clock, standby light, whirring sound when first plugged in, then initially, it would be safe to say that the internal power supply is the culprit. For the moment, course of action would be:
  • confirm power availability on the outlet (which as you posted performed already);
  • check the AC cord/powerline of the unit with a continuity tester;
  • check the fuse (inside);
  • check for the presence of standby voltage (normally +5).
Of course most of the above would require opening the unit which needs a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Remote control via RI terminal on Onkyo Receiver

Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.

turn the power on. to get rid of the red light you need to press the timer/rec button on the remote until it turns off. the red light means it is programed to record.

Loading fault

check power cables to dvd and hd. voltages should be 12v,gnd,gnd,5V with and without load. if voltages drops with load then fault is probably with caps. I changed one cap when voltage dropped in dvd powercable(5V). cost only 0,50€ to fix powerboard. there is a high risk for electrical shock so if youre not familiar with electrical devices and dont know how to perform these checking operations and so on... then PLEASE take your unit for professional

DVD player stuck in standby mode

Bad caps in the power supply is causing this. C17 (10v,470uf), C17,c14 (10v,1000uf) and C18 (10v,470uf). Replace with same capacitance values but 25 volt rating 85 C. Just fixed mine half hour ago works great.
