Question about Nintendo DS Console

1 Answer

Son's DS Lite will not charge or run with power supply connected. Tried another power supply, no different. When you plug in the charger the orange light comes on once and goes out.  Any suggestions?

If the system is new enough than I would suggest taking it back to the store. If its too late I can fix it for you.
You have a faulty circuit or fuse in a circuit.
I can test and repair, standard work.

Orange light flashes and wont charge

This usually means you either might have a faulty charger cable. Or it is connected to the wi-fi. I am guessing it is off. Try letting the ds run completely out of battery to the point where you cannot even turn it on. Then plug the cable into the ds first. Then plug the charger into a different outlet. Hopefully this solves your problem. Good luck :)

US Nintendo DS-Lite with converter problems in South Africa

Hi,

It should work straight out with a step down transformer. That is of course if the mains supply in South Africa is 240 240 and the unit being American is 110.

This is of course not unless it was initially tried without a transformer or stepdown converter which would mean that the charger/adapter has been fried and therefore damaged.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

My son has a DS lite. It was working fine and now

possibly fuses have blown on the logic board, but it sounds like it needs a new one board.

Won't charge

If you have a good power supply/charger, then the battery pack is bad. It is common and even more common in newer electronics since new parts are made cheaper.

Ds lite charging lite comes on but when i press power button nothing happens

Are you leaving the DS charge until the light comes off? Remember that there are two likes too, one for charging and one for power. If you're just charging for some random period of time (lets say... One hour) then your Battery isn't going to be fully charged. The best way to ensure that your DS Lite is charged is to leave it charge until the charge light turns off. You can play your DS Lite while you are charging (I do it all the time), but it just means that you're just running off of the outlet.

A good test is to charge it fully (until the charge light comes off), unplug the charger cord (Make sure it's secured tightly to your DS while charging), then play for a little bit, your light should be a normal color (green).

If you cannot even play by using the outlet, then you need to
find a charger cord that actually works (You may need to send in the charger for replacement). If the same thing happens with 2 different batteries (assuming that you have two official Nintendo batteries).

TIP: Also run your fingers across the Charger cord. You're going to get a slight friction burn from the rubber, but you're going to get all of the kinks out of the wire in the cord. My charger cord had a similar problem (did not charge all the way, only charged until I moved the DS) but when I ran my fingers across it (pinching) it worked again.

Also check the pins in both charger cords, charging will not work if one pin is missing, nor if any are bent.

Power problems with DS Lite

Really sounds like a dead battery. The DS will not work if the battery is bad even when it's plugged in. You get the quick flash of the power light and that's it.
