White vinegar is the only thing I know of that completely removes the smell of urine. The smell of the vinegar stays for a couple of days, but then disappears.

Our heating and hot water keeps turning off

Sounds like a glitche in the thermostat. First, override the program & see if it does the same thing over the next few days.

Control Rheem water heater temperature based on schedule

This is probably not what you really want to do. It will use more energy to reheat the tank than maintain a full tank of water.

Honeywell Thermostat power light

I just had this happen to me a few days ago. I hope you find this response before you did what I did and paid an AC guy $103 for him to do about 5 minutes worth of work. Here goes.

The power is shutting off because your drip line is clogged. Your drip line is the tubing that goes from your compressor (inside) to the outside of your house. When that tube gets clogged up (with algae and dirt) then the water will backup in the line. There is a protection circuit in the line and when it detects water (because of a backup) then it shuts all power to the AC off. If you take a shop vac outside and **** all the **** out then you'll be fine. The AC guy said that when I replace my filter every month that I need to pour about 1/2 cup of bleach in the line (from the inside) to prevent algae from forming and stopping the pipe up. Hope this helps someone out there before it costs them a $100.

Honeywell ST6400C with no display

I pressed the reset button in error and the display just would not return o no heating or hot water. Nothing tripped on the board and all wires and the unit itself showed power coming through.I got it working again by sheer determination.

What I did
I took the unit from the base plate and opened the front panel to see circuit board. It has 4 clips and it all goes back together easily.

What I did.Time taken 15 minutes.

The tiny rubber reset button was collapsed, perhaps maintaining the 'off' situation.

I moved a tiny wire from touching the side of the battery.Perhaps not important but it didnt look right.

When i remounted the unit it lit up beautifully.

So the solution lies in 1 or all of these 3.
If it happens again I will try

1. simply remove the unit from its base plate and remount to see if that is all it takes.

2. Open the front and check the reset button isnt collapsed and stuck.

3. Just move that little wire from leaning against the battery -(least sure of why this might help)

hope this might help someone else

Baseboard heater giving off burning smell

I just ran into this same problem yesterday when I had a new baseboard heater installed in my tiny bedroom. When I turned it on it gave off a horrible smell that made me cough and choke. The stench went everywhere -- opening the bedroom windows and closing the door was not enough. I called the electrician this morning and he told me that it is the coating on the heater coil. He said they coat the coils when the heaters are manufactured to prevent them from corroding before they are installed. He said this would happen with any new baseboard heater I got. He suggested that I go stay somewhere else for a few days while leaving the heater on high to let the coating burn off. Since I could not do this, I had the heater removed again.

I wish I had a better answer for you. It seems crazy to me that a manufacturer would make heater coils out of a metal that corrodes easily -- I mean, it will start corroding as soon as the coating burns off, right? Plus, why use a toxic coating in the first place?

No heat!

Ger, do you get your hot water off the same boiler and it that working alright? How many zones and are they controled by zone valves (little boxes mounted on the pipes) or circulators (small pumps)?

Boiling water sounds can indicate hard water deposits in the boiler or that your aquastat is set too high allowing the water to heat up higher than it should. Check your boiler guage and let me know what temperature you are recording. Get back to me with the answers to my questions, we'll figure it out.
