I turned my Zune on this morning the opening screen with the white line came on and that's as far as it goes....I've tried the back button w/ the off button but nothing's happening

This is SO stupid! The so-called "FIX" by waiting it out, then connecting after JAN 1, 2009 does NOT work. My 30 Gb Zune still freezes when I connect to my computer! Have to remove the (2) screws and pull the battery to reset! Even then, I have to leave the battery DISCONNECTED and plug the USB so the screen flashes a couple of times, disconnect the USB, then RECONNECT the battery. That allows my zune to restart without freezing, BUT the second I try reconnecting to my computer....BAM!!! I support the Zune, but SERIOUSLY thinking about an I POD!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!

I unplugged the battery, and it did start up. The next day was the same problem again....
Do I have to disassemble the zune every day?
    What BS!!

I read one of the posts that said to take the back off and unplug the battery. How do I get the back off?

If you connect your player to a computer beforenoon GMT on January 1, 2009, you'll experience the freeze mentionedabove—even if that computer does not have the Zune software installed. If this happens, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
  2. Becausethe player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait untilthe battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery wasfully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
  3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
  4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
Oncethe battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. Noother action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!

My Zune 4gb won't sync with my software and will not charge

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my 30GB Zune. The first normal solution is to make sure that the USB port is providing enough power to the Zune to charge it by trying a different port or computer, but since your other Zune charges it is likely not the problem.

Other possibly solutions are performing a hard reset on the Zune (hold back and up until it resets), or allowing the zone to completely discharge and try again. In my case, none of these solutions worked and I was forced to send my Zune in for a new battery, which Microsoft was willing to replace for free.

My 30gig zune is froze and unresponsive. Please help

there is a "lock" button on the top on the left side make sure this switch is turned to off.
Try one or more of these solutions to resolve this problem:
  • The Zune may be locked. Move the hold switch to the unlocked position. It may help to move the switch back and forth. Then press the play/pause button for a second.
  • The battery may be drained.try recharging it
  • To reset your Zune, press and hold the back button while pressing up on the Zune pad. Resetting turns Zune off and on again.

My zune froze when I turned it on. It is frozen on the Zune welcome screen with the loading bar at the bottom. I have tried the back and up button and it has not worked. I have also tried the back, up and...

There's a fix:

Your Zune will need a "hard reset."

To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the Zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the Zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connector. Your Zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the Zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.

It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it.

Frozen zune

Charge the Zune using your computer (if you have one) and then when it turns on, then you got it fixed. If it is charged but won't do anything, then press the back button and up on the control panel.

My zune wont turn on

I turned on my Zune and the screen froze so I turned it off but it would not turn back on.

I went online and read somewhere that if the screen freezes then you should press up and back and wait for the zune insignia to come on. Well my zune was not just frozen it would not go on but I tried the up and back thing and it worked. it took about 9-13 seconds but it worked so give it a chance and if that doesn't work try charging it overnight. Hope that helps :D
