Your antivirus software could be blocking the service for the HP software.
Follow these steps.

Check that the lead from the computer to the printer is connected properly and that it doesn't have any kinks in it.
If all seems well with the leads try reinstalling the printer software again to see if that irons out the problem

Try looking in the manual or contacting customer support @ HP for help. Either of those WILL have a definate answer to the issue.
