Your antivirus software could be blocking the service for the HP software.
Follow these steps.

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 2005 Version 6.0

  • Open McAfee Security Center by double-clicking on the M icon in the notification area.
  • On the left column, click personal firewall+
  • Under I want to... click View the Internet Applications list .
  • Look for the PML Driver HPZipm12.exe application in the list. Right-click it and select Allow Full Access .
Norton Internet Security 2005 / Norton Personal Firewall
  • Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
  • Click Personal Firewall .
  • Click Configure .
  • On the Programs tab, find the PML Driver HPZipm12.exe application in the list and change the Internet Access status to Permit All .
  • Click OK .
  • Close Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.

Hi there
Check that the lead from the computer to the printer is connected properly and that it doesn't have any kinks in it.
If all seems well with the leads try reinstalling the printer software again to see if that irons out the problem

Good luck and kind regards

Unplug the power/Adapter for 10 sec and plug in again. Check Your Printer cable that connects to PC because your PC lost connection/communication with your printer.

recently do you make any change in your software? Corrupted printer driver can also cause not to detect the device. In such case you can reinstall the driver. Assuming your printer Hardware is working fine!

Can't find tool box to check ink level - HP 6310 using Vista 2007

doesnt matter most printers have a feature of their own to check ink levels.
press the setup button on the printer and scroll down(with the arrow buttons) till you get tools press ok and now scroll through until you get ink level and select it by pressing the ok button, walla you should have your ink levels in front of you.

Now about the hp solution centre/hp director icon on your desktop (if you have installed the software).
Click on settings and click on printer toolbox and now check your estimated ink levels it will show the ink levels of the printer cartridges.

How do I check levels of ink on my HP Photosmart c6300 all in one. Thank You CJ

There are two ways to do this:
Method 1 Check the back of your computer to make sure that the printer is appropriately connected to the computer and is plugged in. If the printer is not plugged into the computer, find the printer jack on the back of the computer and plug it in before you move on to the next step.Click on the "Start" menu button which is located on bottom left hand corner of your screen. Click on the "Settings" bar and notice that a list of functions pop up to the left of the settings button. Click on the control panel icon.Look for the printer/fax icon in the control panel window. Double click on the printer icon.Find the icon for your printer in the opened window and right click on the icon. Now click on the "Preferences" option.Look for the menu box pop up with tabs near the top of the box. Click on the "Services" tab.Click on "Service this device." You will find the button on the Services menu that you just activated.Click on the estimated ink level tab and a graphic will appear indicating how much ink is left in the cartridge.OR Method 2 Click Start and select HP Solution Center . Select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink. Figure 1: Estimated ink levelsc00677193.gif
