HP Pavillion vz5000 model internal speakers not working

I had to reload all the original windows XP after a computer problem and since then the internal speakers won't work. A message says I don't have speakers. I tried reloading the Critical Security Updates - but that didn't help. What do I need to do. I hear alert beeps but will not play from the headphone jack or when I put in a DVD for a movie or music.

First you need to make sure you have drivers for your sound card. Just right click on "My Computer" and a menu will appear, left click on "properties". A window will appear, click Hardware and then Device Manager. When that opens you will see all the stuff on your computer, look for sound, video and game controllers. Click on the little plus sign and see if it has six items listed. You should see something like "Realtek Audio and if you don't you need to load the drivers for your computers sound card.
Good Luck

    Audio bus driver failed

You need the drivers for your sound card.

If your computer came pre-built and has a model number, google drivers for this computer and install the sound drivers.

If your computer doesn't have a model number, you'll need to open up the case. Once open, if you have a discrete sound card (it's a card that fits into a slot on the motherboard) you'll need to google the make and model of it and find drivers. If you don't have a discrete card, you'll need to google make and model of the motherboard and find drivers that way.

You may need to download the software for the sound card, it is not part of the program in many recovery disks, go to the support site for your computer, Dell, HP, whatever the manufacturer is and load up software and driver downloads by the model or service tag number of your computer. Also go tot he start menu (lower left of tray) and click on "Control Panel", in the next window click on "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices" then check to see that the volume is turned up on the sound or it is not muted.

You likely just need to reinstall the drivers. Please visit the below link and go down to the Original Drivers section and you'll see Spring 2006 Original Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 drivers. Download and install those drivers and you should have your sound back.

You may need to install the audio drivers for those systems. If the sound is built onto the mainboard, you'll need the motherboard model number to help locate the drivers online. You can look for them yourself through a search engine, or if you'd like, get back to me with the model numbers of the motherboards, and I will locate your drivers. The model number of the motherboard should be printed directly on the motherboard itself.

It is not the speakers you need drivers for but the computer sound chip. Check out the motherboard makers website and download the driver for your particular motherboard. reboot and they should work OK. If not they are probably faulty

No drivers needed for them to work in XP, this I know for sure. Any other operating system, I can't say with any certainty. But I would assume they would work ok in Vista as well.

When plugged into a Windows XP system, they show up in the device manager as "Harman Kardon SoundSticks" without any additional software or drivers. Hope this helps.
