Whirlpool Refrigerator Stops Running

I have a Whirlpool side by side, mod# ed5chqxkt03, which was purchased new in 2005. It stopped running. If I tap on the temperature control knobs or in the vicinity, it will begin running again. If I tap on that area while it is running, it will shut off. Is this a simple loose connection or something more serious such as a bad thermostat, or something completely different?

I can help with this issue , Take the cover off with the controls to see inside , make sure all wires are connected to t-stat it will have a slim tube coming out of it , if there all intact it is a bad connection in the bi-metal inside the tstat which can not be repaired. you must replace your thermostat. sears parts topically has the best price. hope that helps you out , let me know if you have any prob. or questions. My refrigerator stops running and everything gets warm. If we hit the top of the fridge, it starts to run. Once it stops, it won't start again until we hit it. Any suggestions?

Refrigerator cuts runs and then stops running and then runs again

When the refrigerator is sufficiently cool, it will shift to stand by mode, so that it won't take up much power. When the refrigerator loses it's temperature, it will again go on and start taking power and this cycle goes on. I assume that's what happening to your refrigerator.

Runs almost non-stop. Refrigerator is a 14 year old Whirlpool. I've tried cleaning coils and turning it down. Only stops for about 10-13 minutes after running for more than 2 hours. Refrigerator temp....

That means the relay is gone. Needs a change. As you say the temp is OK. Shows the temp guage is fine. So, the only thing left is the relay that starts and stops the motor. Continuous running is bad for the health of the motor and the compressor and the environment. So please replace the relay.

The refrigerator is not cooling. It seems to be running, there is power, the unit kicks on and off, but the freezer and the cooler are both running higher temps than normal. Model: ED5CHQXKT03 Ser:...

!st check to see if the compressor, the large metal, black motor in the back bottom is the part your hear clicking on = off. If it is you may have a bad relay, Very common repair. If its clicking unplug the refrigerator. remove the wire clip holding the relay assembly to the motor pins. Most of the time you can shake it and hear the broken pieces. But ! this isnt a garantee you need a volt/ohm meter to test the circut to be sure.

Whirlpool model ED5CHQXKT03 had slowed in ice production to an almost standstill

This is possibly due to a blockage in that side of the water control valve. It also may not be opening fully. 2188542 Water Control Valve You also need to check that the fill tube is not freezing over that fills your ice maker. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice machine mod.#QD0452A dump valve staying on

I am assuming that water is running all the time if it is turned on from the house water supply.

If this is the case try unplugging the flat or round cable that runs between the ice maker and the wall of the freezer. If that stops the power to the dump valve then the problem is in the ice maker itself.

You will have to remove it and check the switch contacts to see if they are stuck or broken. There is a thermal switch that causes the cubes to dump and then add more water to the trays. If you can't figure out how this system works but un-plugging the cable stops the power at the valve, the only solution is a new ice maker unit.

A new icemaker will run about $90 retail if you can't get the contacts working corrrectly.

If water is not running all the time it is likely that the ice maker is calling for more water and the valve is not responding. Get a new valve.

Freezer quit freezing

HI,

you can try this suggestion first.

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

any further question let me know.

thanks,
