When I first turn my computer on after the dell opening screen I get a screen that says unrecognized battery system may not be able to charge battery, press enter to continue. But the battery charges and works fine. I have tried removing the battery and reinstalling it but it didn't work. Anyone know anything about this or can help?

Re: Dell Inspiron 1501
Are you using the original charger or another. The Dell power system will give this message when you use a 70W charger on a system that needs a 90W charger - check the sticker on the back. Also, if the plug to the main board gets just a little loose you will get this message. Be careful you are not putting too much strain at the power plug or you will need a repair soon! Jon

No laptop is trashed when a password is lost. It just takes a little time to find out how to get into the system. I'll assume it is running XP Home that was originally installed on it from the specs I saw when researching. I'll also assume the password is not the one necessary to get into the BIOS CMOS setup- that one can normally be cleared by removing the CMOS battery and letting it set for a few hours or longer so the information is lost. The OS password can be cleared by making a bootable disk for that purpose. I have a Unix CD program that I made from information I downloaded from the Internet. You can do the same if you have access to a CD burner on another computer, say a friend's or one at work. I can get you the program's name if that's the route you want to take.
Dell Laptop with bios or hard drive password set ? Unlock your dell laptop using the link below if it display a message that says "this computer system is protected by a password authentication system, you cannot access the data on this computer without the primary or administrator password, when you turn on the computer. This message is what you get if the BIOS is protected by a password. or you get system disabled
hi ruthie. turn the laptop over and you will see a sliding button in the u pper left area. slide it over to open the battery compartment. then just lift out the old battery and insert the new one. replace the cover and plug in your computer to charge the battery.
If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
