Question about Stoves Kitchen Ranges

2 Answers

My stove works but my oven does not! We had to cook our Christmas Turkey on the BBQ! Please help. The lights in the oven turn on, all 4 burners of the stove work but no light (on the button) or heat when you turn on the oven. It is a Kenmore that is electric and about 10 years old. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks, Johann

Hello daveandjohan

It needs 240 volts to heat the oven, if the clock/timer control isn't sending enough, then you would need a new clock/timer assembly.

Even though, everything else still works and you wouldn't think that this would be the problem, this is the problem, sorry to say, not much else controls the oven. let me know if you have any further questions. good luck on the replacement

If your oven has a pilot light, that could be out. If it is lit, it may be the thermocouple (a sensor that doesn't let the gas flow to the oven if it detects no pilot light lt) may be at fault.
Not hard for someone who is handy to replace.

    or try this

Sounds like you have an element or both burnt out. Should have a top
and bottom one inside. Check for any sections that are missing sections
out of it. Heating elements are around $30 each. If you need to pay
someone to install them, it might be cheaper to replace stove.

What's wrong and how do I fix it?

The circuit breaker outside in the power panel for the stove has a bad breaker. It will be two breakers with their handles joined together by a pin so if one tripe it takes the other so 220 V is no longer present. When one, but not the other trips you only have 110 V. That's why the lights and clock still work but no heating elements.

How do I fix my stove? None of the radiant elements are working.

Have you confirmed that you do have 220 volts at the range outlet? If you don't, turn your breaker off then on and recheck the voltage with a meter. Any losses of voltage through the breaker indicates you may have a bad breaker. (Do this with the stove unplugged from the stove power receptacle). Next, have you pulled one of the elements off the stove and checked it with an ohm meter to see if you have continuity. No continuity indicates the element circuit is incomplete and the element needs to be replaced (you should have a reading on the ohm meter if the element is good).

Oven not heating and oven control lights not working

Check if the oven is in AUTO cook mode. It should be in MANUAL cook mode , check if it has a MANUAL mode button. Sometimes resetting the clock will put it back into MANUAL mode.
