Would you be able to help me to program the directory button on our NEC Elite phone system so we could scroll back through caller ID for the last 50 calls?

I do have the MIFM-U10 ETU card installed. Do I need to power off the system to see the chip or can I pull it hot?

  • johnd979 Jan 14, 2009

There isn't a chip in IC6. Do you know where I could purchase one for the board?

I really do appreciate all of your help. I have one more question if you have time. We have some of the older NEC DTU phones that don't have a directory button. Can I program a line key for it?

Your advise has been great and everything is working. I really appreciate it. I've tried to rate the advice but when I click one of the links it says the page cannot be displayed. I do have one more question if you don't mind. I found the KMM chip through Ebay. The seller told me he thought it had 5.0 firmware but it must be lower. Is there a way to flash upgrade the firmware?

To get Caller ID storage on the NEC Elite system, your system must have the circuit card - MIFM-U10 ETU with KMM(1.0) chip on it. If you can look inside the cabinet, it is located, usually, in the second slot from the left side. Please verify that you have the Elite or Elite IPK system and not an Elite IPK II system. The factory "Directory" button (not just a normal line button labeled "Directory") first appeared standard on the DTH model phones, which are used on the IPK and the IPK II systems which are quite different animals. If you only get caller ID, with no storage, you likely need the MIFM-U10 card with the KMM(1.0) chip.

You can pull the card out hot. The KMM chip is IC6 toward the connector at the back of the card. The other requirement, if you have the KMM chip, is that Caller ID be enabled for your MIFM card. It is done through system programming. You can turn it on by these key sequences. Follow this EXACTLY from a display phone (start idle): <Feature>, #0*8974, press <Line 7> button, press <Line 3> button, press *, 4,01, <Transfer><Speaker>. Test again. One other item, MIFM firmware 5.0 is required for 50 call storage. If firmware level is lower, you will only get 10 call storage. If all the above fails, you will need to call a certified NEC technician to check it out.

To program a button for viewing Caller ID numbers, first press 4 on the idle phone you want to put the button on. The display will show : "XXX = TEL PP", where XX= Extension number and PP = Port number. Also note which button (line key number) you want to put it on. From any idle display phone, press #0*8974, press , press "**" then dial the 2-digit port number, dial "12", then dial the 2-digit line key number you want to become the CID button. If you are programming from a 16 button phone, the SCROLL key (for CID) is probably button 13, if you are on an 8-button phone, you will have to press the recall button to change pages then press line key 5. If you have any problem at this point, just press each line key until the LCD shows "SCROLL". When LCD shows "SCROLL" press , . Good luck!

Actually, it is the MIFM card firmware that must be 5.00 or higher. I am pretty sure there is only one version of KMM chip (two physical formats, but one feature set). You can view the firmware version, I think, by this: From any idle display phone, press #0*8974, Press , then press until the MIF card is displayed. It should show the version. If it doesn't, then it is version 1.00. Press when finished. You can only upgrade MIFM firmware by ordering an upgrade chip from NEC, sorry.

I have a PRI and am asking the same question. I do know that you do have to go into programming to set this up. You also have to have a COIB card installed for this to work for standard Direct Inward Dial lines.

you need to subscribe to Caller Id from the phone company! If you already have it, it should work, otherwise I would check with your NEC contractor.

This is something you could be walked through with tech support. They would need to know what type of system and what cards are in it, in order to program it. ldtsnj.com

I have a 4 line NEC Dterm 80 phone. How do I recall the past

depends on the type pf system. Do you have a coib installed in the system? Is caller id setup or programmed? If there is no mif card in the switch you cannot save caller id info. It only shows up when the phone rings and while on the call. There should be a directory key that you can price to scroll through the numbers if everything above is correct. ldtsnj.com

Caller id not working

the directory key is storage for caller id. dtr80 is not the type of system but the type of phone.
The system needs to have other components like a mif card in order to store caller id.
Also if your phone does not ring with incoming outside call than you will not get caller id.
