Question about Blaupunkt PCA460 Car Audio Amplifier

No sound coming from speakers Blaupunkt GTA470 Amp

I have transfered my Blaupunkt GTA470 amp to my other car. When i turn on the ignition and power the audio unit the green light goes out on the amp and the Red illuiminates! There is no sound coming from speaker.

Please help!

Amp Failure:
There are many different ways that an amp can fail but the two most common failures are shorted output transistors and blown power supply transistors (< those are not blown). There are several types of protection circuits in amplifiers. The most common are over-current and thermal. The over-current protection is supposed to protect the output transistors. Sometimes it doesn't work well enough to prevent the failure of the output transistors but it will work well enough to shut the supply down before the power supply FETs are destroyed. If the amp remains in protect mode, goes into protect mode or blows the fuse as soon as the remote voltage is applied, shorted output transistors are almost certainly the cause. If the fuse protecting the amp is too large, if the protection circuit doesn't respond quickly enough or if the power supply is poorly designed, the power supply transistors may fail. If you see a lot of black soot on the power supply transistors (near the power transformer), the power supply transistors have failed. Soot on the board doesn't necessarily mean the transistors have failed. Sometimes, technicians don't clean up the mess from a previous failure. Transistor Failure/Checking Transistors:
In general, when a transistor fails, it will either short (common for output AND power supply transistors) or open (common for power supply transistors). Transistors act like valves. They control the current flowing through a circuit. A shorted transistor acts like a valve that's stuck open (passing too much current). In the case of an output transistor, the shorted transistors tries to deliver the full rail voltage to the speaker output terminal. If you've ever seen a damaged amp that pushed or pulled the speaker cone to its limits when the amp powered up (common on some Rockford amplifiers), that was almost certainly due to a shorted output transistor. When checking transistors, you most commonly look for shorted connections inside the transistor. You do this by using a multimeter to look for low resistance connections between the transistor's terminals.

you have to make sure you give correct stereo signal source to the stereo amp input, you can confirm this by changing your audio source to Left or Right. can your amp speaker out follow the sequence?

Power from ignition is setup to turn power On,

Check if +12V is available on "REM" terminal.

Check the speaker wirings , if speaker is connected to the

speaker output of the amp securely.

If you want instructions in brief this involves POWER CONNECTIONS, PHONO LEAD & SPEAKER CONNECTIONS:

POWER (At the same time when routing these wires, I would connect the PHONO LEADS from the car cd player to the amp, if your car cd player only has 1 preout (1red & 1 white) then you will need two phono splitters, a female to 2 males. Phono leads carry the unamplified sound from cd player to the amp):
~ Permanent 12V+ (Thick lead that is fused direct from battery all the way to the amp, wire must be 20a to 30a +, hence 1cm diameter wire, known as AWG8, Maplin sell cheaper kits then most)
~ Amp REMOTE (A thin insulated cable (5a is OK) from car cd player amp remote wire, this turns the amp on when the cd player is on, if your car doesn't have an amp remote wire, suggest nearest ignition supply or seperate switch that you turn on when you want to turn on the amp)
~ GrouND 12V- (Insulated lead (20a to 30a) to nearest part of unpainted car chassis such as interior panel screw hole, instead of an insulated cable all the way from the batery, this is common practise.

SPEAKER:
Each speaker has a - negative & + positive, these must connected correctly. The amp has 4 channel, 2 channel labeled as front, 2 channels labeled as rear. Using speaker wire, connect cable from amp to speakers. Note: Ensure the speakers being connected only receive sound from the amp (Not cd player as well, as would damage players or at the very least impair sound)
The amp has a feature called bridgeable this means a sub 8" or 10" sub can be powered by 'bridging' two channels. For example there are 2 ways to bridge power a Sub on the NIKKAI EAPA450:
i) Sub speaker wire positive + to channel RL and Sub speaker wire negative - to channel RR.
OR
ii) Sub speaker wire positive + to channel FL and Sub speaker wire negative - to channel FR.

Switches:
~ Bass boost, meant to be on for a channel if using sub, otherwise off.
~ X-over mode adjust hi/lo frequencies, only work if both x-over switches are on! Then adjust switch frequency knob, until it sounds right.
~ Gain (Volume knob) adjust volume knob up or down, until it sounds right!

NOTE:
You will need patience! many hand tools and parts such as: Wiring kit, fuse holder 20a/30a, Phono leads, speaker cable, Fork/ring connectors, wire strippers, wire cutters, set of screw drivers, also ueful to have zip ties to tdy excess cable and 'P' cable clips to tidy speaker wire to shelf, etc.

Protection light flashes on and i get nothing


Hello shwoop22,

It sounds like power is shorting out or the amp is defective. With the fuse removed, use a multimeter set to ohms and check between the power terminal to ground.

The protection light will normally come on if the amp overheats (for example when running with too low impedance), or if the speakers are shorted.

Power light turns from green to red protect mode and then there is no sound coming from my speakers


there are 2 reasons for it to be going into protect mode 1 is heat 2 is the load on it. if it is going into protect mode soon after it starts there is a problem with the speaker. if it is after it has been on for a while it is that the amp itself is overheating. hope this answers your question

Hi i have a 600 watt sony xplod amp model xm-554zr and it recently stopped working. when i turn my car on the amp turns on but only for a sec then the protection light comes on, on the amp and it wont...


sounds like maybe a speaker short, try unhooking your speakers and then powering up your amp, if it then powers up with the speakers unhooked try hooking up each speaker one by one untill the amp goes back into protection and then you have your bad speaker.
