Question about Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

My older dyson is so hard to push, was told there's a kluge to fix it. Where can I find that information?

Difficult to push. Dyson product demonstrator at my local Costco said this website has a tip for what to do to change the suction head area to eliminate that problem. She was great, and I bought a new ball-style dyson from her, but I'd also like to do this fix so I can enjoy using both my dysons.

You will be surprised how much friction dirt on the sole plate will cause, it has to be as clean as possible to glide across the carpet so definitely clean that before you move onto any other solutions, or it's damaged or simply a worn soleplate.
hope this helps.

SOURCE: Dyson Dc07

I had the same issue and solved it easily. My experience is the same as the March 6th response/ When you push your foot onto the base and then recline the handle, use your toe to gently push the very front of the base down closer to the carpet. This creates a much stronger seal and suction and picks up every bit of dirt easily. If i do not do this extra step the suction is much much less. I tried an experiment with sand that I poured onto my carpet. Initially, I went over the sand 4 times and the dyson 07 would only pick up 50 percent of the sand. I then poured more sand onto the carpet, and this time pushed the front lip down so it was contacting the carpet. This time only two passes were needed to completely **** up all the sand. Not sure why this is not in the manual but it really works. Good Luck!

SOURCE: My dyson vacumn is hard to push on carpeting. How do i fix it?

This happens when the bristles in the brush roll get worn down too short. Put in a new brush roll and the machine will pull itself over the carpet, so you hardly have to push at all.

SOURCE: no suction on dyson dc24 ball

Well i just fixed my Dyson Ball with the same problem you have. My wife and i found out it was a crumpled receipt in the lower section of the hose at the upright/handheld pivot #3 in diagram and it was catching cat hair and other things. I began by removing the canister and turned on the vacuum to see if the direct access to the fan had suction. Then i moved to #5; i reattached the canister and threw in some cat hair into it from the bottom. i turned on the vaccum to see if it spinned around; it didnt. I then moved to #4, i removed the head and then turned on the vaccum to see if maybe the head had a leak at the top connecter; as i predicted the strength was minimal. I then worked my way to #1 to see if the strength was the same or if there was a difference. no difference for us. Well then it must be #3.. of course the last one i checked. I used a small flashlight and peared in and i didnt see anything... i then used a coathanger very softly as to not puncture the hose. i then noticed some hair being pushed out but the main culprit wasnt showing. my wife gave me needle nose pliers and i pried the hose off of the top connection in #3; so i could get a better look; you may be able to push it off with your hands. and viola! a crumpled reciept for 3 Monster energy drinks.... the same ones....i drink... oops!... hopes this helps. just go through it step by step. youll know its working once stuff begins to spin in the canister. almost regretted throwing that dyson registry junk away.

SOURCE: motorized brush bar not turning on Dyson Vacuum

Apparent common failure is that either the thin yellow and or blue motor drive wires that run from the LH side of the vacuum where the "control board" is located down into the hinge / ball area become stretched and then fray and eventually break. Happened to my Dyson twice. First repaired under warranty, second took about 20 minutes. You need a Torx screwdriver to remove the LH panel ( 4 screws) and also an access panel (2 screws) at the side of the ball which permits access to the blue / yellow wire connectors. I replaced with a new wire and connectors having fed the wires through the access hole making sure sure enough wire was available for the movement of the handle. Also ensure that when the covers are replaced they do not trap any wires underneath.

Reading this blog. Dyson is of little to no help. How disappointing when you spend a small fortune on one of their products. I'm just now experiencing hard to push with. DC25 Animal. Can't adjust height....

sorry to say your dyson is not the fault, its your carpet, a lot of new carpets have a tight weave pattern, this makes it impossible to push any vacuum. all new carpets have a directional pile always vacuum with the pile. The best option is to buy a auto drive kirby it does all he hard work for you. you can pick a refurbished one up for around 300

We had an older dyson vacuum that worked great until it had to be replaced and now our new one it works great on short carpet but is very difficult to push on thicker carpet.

Hi Ronnie, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your new Dyson vacuum on this particular type of deeper-pile carpet. It's possible your new machine has higher suction at the cleaner head, and this could mean it needs slightly higher push-force on certain carpets with deeper, denser pile, or thick underlay. You may find it helps to use the vacuum with the brush bar switched - carpet manufacturers will sometimes advise vacuuming deep-pile carpets in this way.

However, I would encourage you to get in touch with us directly so we can take some further details about the issue. When you have your Dyson vacuum easily to hand, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). Our experts will be happy to discuss your concerns.

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

My Dyson Absolute DC17 is becoming difficult to push

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If the cleaner seems to have become difficult to push, you may want to check that the base of the soleplate is clean. If it appears to be dirty, you can clean it using a damp cloth - always make sure it's totally dry before replacing it on the cleaner.

While you have the soleplate removed, it's a good idea to check that the cleaner head is free of blockages, and that the brushbar is free of any threads or hair. For guidance on removing the soleplate and performing these checks, please see follow the steps shown in our support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=955&product=DC17-ANIMAL

If the soleplate appears to be damaged, or if you find that following these steps doesn't resolve your issue, please get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Very hard to push. It started gradually but now its nearly impossible to vacuum the carpet. Is this an easy fix?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If the cleaner seems more difficult than usual to push, it's a good idea to check the soleplate for damage, and to remove any threads, hair and other obstructions from the brushbar. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=961&product=DC17-ANIMAL

You may also want to contact your carpet manufacturer to check it's suitable for cleaning with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a revolving brushbar. Manufacturers sometimes recommend cleaning certain types of carpeting using suction only.

If you have any further questions or concerns, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

THE ROLLER BLADES ARE DIFFICULT TO ACCESS PLUS THEY GET CLOGGED TOO EASILY. i CAN'T ADJUST THE CARPET HIGHT???

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. I can confirm that the cleaner head has been engineered to adjust automatically for optimum pick-up on different floor surfaces, without the need for manual adjustment. The brush control allows you to turn the brushbar off when needed, to protect hard floors, delicate rugs, or plush-pile carpeting.

If you need to clean hair, threads or other obstructions from the brushbar or cleaner head, removing the soleplate will allow you greater access. Our online guide shows you how to do this:

If you need any further advice on maintaining your DC07, please get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to provide the information and assistance you need. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

My Dyson Absolute has started making a loud noise and the has gotten progressively more difficult to push. I'm guessing the self-propel has stopped working. Is there a quick fix?

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Try making sure the brush bar is turning when in the vacuuming position. It is possible that the brush bar is obstructed which can cause your machine to make this noise.

Check out our online help at www.dyson.co.uk/support.
