1. You may have lost the drivers for the sound card. If you have the mother board driver CD you can reload the sound card driver via the "device manager" in Windows. 2. Check also if you don't have any of the sound outputs muted in the "volume mixer" at the task bar icon for the sound ( the speaker icon).
In that case please go to Start->Control Panel->Sound Devices. Here you will have a box which on ticked will Place the Volume Icon in Task Bar. Click on it and tick mark it. Save and come out to the sesk top and you will find the icon here.
Check down in the task bar and make sure you have either the volume control icon if not then you need to start by checking and installing the driversl. These are available from Compaq under the support section
Second right click the volume icon click audio properties and make sure it says the name of your sound hardware in the top box on all the tabs.and make sure it is listed on the last tab "hardware" if it is you can then close them boxes down and right click on the volume control but this time select "open volume control"
you should be presented with a list of things starting with the volume control then wave then sw synth then cd player it may show more and in fact you can make it show more but we have what we need and now you should move all the sliders to at least half way If you take the first 3 and make them about 3/4
Try anything you want for sound preferably a proper music cd and lets see if we got you fixed up.
Do you see the sound/speaker icon in the taskbar? Check it first if it is muted. If there is no sound/speaker icon in the taskbar, try to go to the Device Manager to check if there is a sound driver installed in your laptop.
the yellow icon means that there is a problem with the device drivers for your audio. Find the manufacturer name, and model number for your audio device, delete the present audio drivers, the download fresh driver files from the manufacturer's website
click on start go to control panel
click on sound and audio devices
make sure that the mute option does not have a check mark next to it
and put a check mark in the box which says place volume icon in taskbar
click on apply
then check if you get a volume icon and do check the sound
Start --> Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices. Make sure it is picking up the sound card and tick the box to show the icon in the task bar. Click apply then open the sound control from the task bar and make sure nothing is muted.
