    Hello,

It is a friends laptop. She deleted the program files on the laptop and it will not start up. It is an Aspire 3000 series. All I want to do for her is to reset the pc. The operating system was pre-installed.

I can not even get to the desktop to check the recycle bin to see if the files are there. When I turn on the laptop I get a blue screen. It is checking the file system. Windows is verifying the files and folders on the drive. I will let this run but it has been running for about 10 minutes now and it still says 0% complete.

    The model number is ZL5

  • yedah1978 Dec 31, 2008

She does not have as they are lost somewhere. She has tried to look for them but to no avail.

will give it a shot. The check disk is going at the moment. it is at 20%. If this does not work I will go with the other option you gave me.......

Do you have a reformat cd that came with the laptop? Some laptops have the files already on the harddrive. What model do you have? and what operating system are you using? You may be able to use system restore to go back to a date before you deleted the program files.

By deleting the program files the operating system is no longer installed. Does the machine boot? Are the files in the recycle bin where you can just restore them ?

If restoring the files from the recycle bin is not an option you will need to reload the system. You should have a recovery disk that came with the computer? I will need the exact model number to be able to tell if the restore files are on the harddrive and how to instruct you to enter setup. the model number should be located on the rear of the machine.

do you see four small buttons at the very top right of the keyboard, might be above it a little bit. the second one should have an E on it. Try rebooting and pressing that button.

I am doubting that you will be able to enter that mode outside of windows... ok fingers crossed you have a system with the files installed on the harddrive for recovery.
    1. reboot system and repeatedly press F2 until you enter the BIOS.
    2. Check that the Acer disk-to-disk recovery is ENABLED.
    3. Make sure that the D2D Recovery is ENABLED.
    4. Save changes and reboot.
    5. As the system reboots when the Acer logo comes up hit the ALT key and the F10 key at the same time. ( u must be quick).
6.You should now be in the System Recovery screen, follow the directions and the prompts.

The check disk is only checking your harddrive for failure, you can reboot and not waste the time checking it. You already know that your harddrive is fine, that you manually deleted the files.
Reboot the system and follow the instructions in my last post. The system recovery is very easy to follow.

COMPUTER RUNS SLOW

This may be due to several factors:
1: You may have installed an "always active" programs(like some anti virus or spyware) which may be eating your RAM space... Remove those and always remember that only install software which your system can stand up to.

2: Try to clear temp files by doing Start>Run> Type "%temp%">Delete all files in that..
Note: Some files may be active and you may not be able to delete those...

3:May be you are having a possible virus attack. Try to remove it by using a good antivirus(which also suites your system)

4: Now If problem persists then try to format your system and make a fresh install of your OS.

Can not delete it is used by another program close any program that might be using the file an try again

Reboot the computer and as soon as you get back into windows try deleting the file again. If you get the same message then go into MSCONFIG (type it in the search box) into the startup tab. Disable all the programs and reboot the computer. Try deleting the file again. If you still can't delete it then it may be a system file your trying to delete and those I wouldn't mess with because it could screw up windows.
Last thing to try would be to boot up your computer in safe mode. Since it doesn't load much into memory you should be able to delete your file that way for sure.

I deleated drive f on my computer and now i cant get into my computer,

Hi Aschanderl,
I'm assumming the drive you are referring to was a partitioned hard disk drive where you saved files and installed programs.  If this is where your Operating System was installed to then by deleting the drive you have in effect damaged your OS.  Since many applications and program files are directly tied into the registry of your OS, in effect this means those files are damaged as well.
If you require files on the hard drive partition you deleted, I would recommend taking it to a data recovery service at your local computer store.
If not, you should take your operating system CD, load it into your CD drive, and when you boot your computer up at one of the bios screen choose to reinstall Windows.  At this point you can format your old partition F when it prompts you to do so if you don't care about the remnants of any files that may not have been deleted.
Hope this helps somewhat.
