Question about Aiwa XR-DV700 System
The dvd spins as if it is going to start playing, then just gradually stops and I get a disc error message on screen.
CD's are playing absolutley fine though.
This is a classic sign that either the lens is dirty or that the optics are starting to fail. If you can get access to the optics assembly, try carefully cleaning the lens using a coton swab and alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced.

At your own risk obviously... I have two of these units and have the same problem on both. Just tried to source a replacement optical block to no avail. While I was looking for a solution, I tried just cleaning the dust off the optical lens with a cotton bud. While I wiped around the lens I had a hair drier pointed at the area. Then used the other end of the bud to remove the dust from all of the area surrounding including the bits of exposed metal. Didn't go back to the block with the same end of the cotton bud as the area surrounding the lens has electronic grease/oil on it. Popped a DVD in and problem solved. Hope this helps. David
