Hi

Well about guaranteed your 2 gigs ram is probably DDR II ram which has maximum of four gigs with 64 bit processing and 2 with 32 bit is. So motherboard needs upgrade. 35.00 for good giabit or board with 1000 megs a sec ethernet lan. With ddrIII ram. And upgrade operating system I believe win 8 has max 16 gig ram win 7 uses 8 gis vista and longhorn 64 use 4 and xp normal edition 32 bit uses 2 max. So you about have to run win 7 or 8. Win 7 will become direct x incomparable at some point making us change to win 8. Win8 cost like 300 to 350 and tiger direct.com has good deal of the win 7 pro media center for 75 bucks. So spend 150 on good speed 8 gig ram, 125 bucks for 12 core and at 4 GHz I think. And a board for 35. Reuse all other componets. And you\'ll have a 2500 dollar computer and best on the block. Hello, I was looking to upgrade the ram in my old dell 5150. The specs say you can use a Max of 4 1 gig sticks yet these specs where released prior to windows 7 ultimate which uses far more ram. What are...

Check www.crucial.com. Use the downloadable program to analyze your system or use the interactive menu system to explore your options.

Check online forums using google searches for terms like 'dell 5150 memory upgrade'. Sometimes, the maximum in the manual is not the real maximum. My Dimension 1000 laptop accepted a certain 1 GB card when the manual said the max was 256MB. Still running it after nearly ten years. The laptop was **** with 512MB (256 built-in and 256 add-on card) but the gf uses it every day.

HI, i was thinking about upgrading my laptops ram module for faster use, i am not all to computer savvy, i just play games and use the inernet. i was wondering how i would install the module and use it...

In laptops, (and some desktops) how much RAM you can use is dictated by how many slots exist to plug ram into. Also, by how many Gigabytes are supported by the motherboard chipsets.
For you... You probably have 2 slots for RAM. IF you have 1 GB of ram, it may be in 2 sticks of 1/2 a gig (500 MB each) plugged into the 2 slots. Or if you have 500 MB, 2 sticks of 250MB This is very common.
If you want to upgrade to 2 Gig, for example, (and may be the max for you) you must purchase 2 sticks of the correct type to install, and remove the existing sticks. You may be able to sell the old ones on ebay.. but hardly worth it for few dollars.
Most important is to reseach exactly what your laptop supports maximum and the correct type.

For more help, post a new problem with specific laptop info. Manufacturer, Model number etc.

I have a Gateway 838GM. It has 4 slots for RAM. It came with 1/2 gig RAM (2 sticks, 256 Megs each). I tried installing new RAM- 2 sticks, 1 gig each. If I replace the original 2 sticks, the computer...

Here are the specifications of the Gateway 838GM: You will have to replace the existing memory with thesesettings only: The machine comes with: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB PC3200DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Nowyou can only upgrade to 4.0 Gig total. I would recommend going to this link and order the correct memory foryour computer I use them quite a bit. http://www.memorystock.com/memory/Gateway838GM.html Rob

Cpu speed for ddr 400 ram

cpu speed has nothing to do with ram. they are completely independant. ram speed is important to the FSB (front serial bus) this is the speed at which your motherboard communicates with the devives attached to it. cpu speed refers to how fast a cpu can process info. or how fast it "thinks". most motherboards have the capability of upgrading cpu's. your mobo (motherboard will support the following cpu's:
any pentium 4 up to 3.0 ghz
it supports the following ram
ddr (nott ddr 2 or 3) up to 2 gigs (1 gig each slot) of 533mhz speed (or less)
it also supports up to 2 gigs of sdram either pc133 or pc100
you are using 400 speed ram as you stated i would upgrade to a 533 speed ram as it will be faster, but this is not necessary. as for the cpu just get any P4 (pentium 4) that is 3.0 ghz or less and it will work.

I have an ibm thinkpad t41 laptop i upgraded to a 1gig ram i want to know if the grapics card can be changed or upgraded . I am trying to run 7 wonders game and it freezes up

the graphics cards really cant be upgraded with out major work. The game you want to run needs 512 of dedicated video memory, not shared as a laptop uses.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,

Mark

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
